I also had a malware attack this week, fake trojan and a right b*gger. DH disinfected PC but had to change the name of the cleanup file as the bloomin thing had already mutated to detect it. It's first known occurrence in Malwarebytes was only Wednesday (goes off in search of red angry head smilie) and Zone Alarm (I have full version) didn't pick up at all. Although this was happening the same time as yours tomterm, I had know way of letting people know, because somewhat stupidly, I'd forgotten what my password was, so while I could get to the site from another device, I couldn't log in.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I think you'll find that you have a red herring.... chartbeat is simply cr4p in its own right
I've done more research and you are right :T
A veritable star, thanks PN, you've saved me a load of agro.
In fact, I think that this second 'event' was a false alarm, it was a piece of foist wear from norton I got when I installed a more secure version of AcroReader.

OK, chaps, BAD News, I had cleared my machine out of the virus I mentioned earlier but it has come back
GOOD News, I think I know why it was reinfected.
BAD News, every time I go to moneysavingexpert.com (and not for any other site), in my avira antivirus web protection report I get the following warning:
10/12/2011,21:35:35 [DETERMINE] [1193] The URL (http://static.chartbeat.com/js/chartbeat.js) was detected as Malware(c). It was blocked.
I am not saying this is conclusive, but my current working theory is that this site may be the cause of my problems.
I can post this because I am currently infected, so it makes little difference to me.
I run avira and don't have problems with MSE.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I run avira and don't have problems with MSE.
I assume you are running the most recent version. Open it up, where will be a little green link called web protection (with a 1) if it is the same version as me, on the left is a link called Internet Protection. Click on 'Web protection' under the link.
It will show a page with last reported URL, Last detected virus etc,
On the same page, near the top, is a little clipboard. If you hover your mouse over it, it has the tip 'Show Report File'
The report file will contain a lot of info, etc, and lots of warnings like
19/10/2011,17:22:56 [DETERMINE] [2265] The URL (http://static.chartbeat.com/js/chartbeat.js) was detected as Malware(c). It was blocked.

It does sound heartbreaking indeed, Pastures. I'm so sorry you have this to cope with on top of everything else. (((hugs)))
However, the bold bits are important, and you need to take advantage of the opportunities you now have to get some time for yourself - both for rest and for work. You haven't had the heating of and drained all days and the builders trying to leave the doors open however often I close them.
Just discovered they haven't connected the hot water tank sensor correctly so the boiler doesn't think it has got the hot water hot and so never switches over to heating the radiators
Sounds horrible. I do feel for you. I am still without heating in my bathroom, but do have heating everywhere else... except that the thermostat is now broken so I can only have heating if I switch it on and off manually, which is not entirely ideal. I must make time to sort out a replacement wireless thermostat soon.I am hopeful that when the new builder comes to quote tomorrow, I will get a date for having the bathroom radiator reconnected so I can look forward to having a warm bathroom. There is quite a bit of tidying to do before I'll be ready for him to come, though - DS is a lot better than he was, but DD is one of the most efficient and effective chaos-creator that I have ever met.
I'n not sure.:( They're supposed to be anonymous, right? Well, the first year we did it at school I actually believed there would be no way to guess the donor.
Sooooo, when I drew the name of an atrractive but rather stuffy young Year 4 teacher, I knew what it had to be....:D
But the ladies on the staff used deductive reasoning way beyond higher maths to work out who'd given what to whom, and especially the name of the pervert who'd sent the prim young lady a most inappropriate item.....:o:o:o
Years later, after half a career somewhere else, the now not-so-young lady returned and, for a while, became acting Head. She obviously held no grudges, as it was her who gave the even older pervert his last (temporary) contract. :A
Dave, I thought of you yesterday when we had our Secret Santa at work. I don't usually work on Fridays and didn't get into school until after they'd given out all the presents (except mine, natch) but I heard about it from the others. One of the younger teachers (female, but definitely not stuffy or prim) received a dot to dot book of male nudes. I don't think anybody's worked out who gave it to her, though. It wasn't me, anyway.
I got one of these. At first I was unwilling to mess it up because I thought I'd never get it back again, but then DD messed it up when I wasn't looking, so I had to have a go at it. It is very confusing, but I'm glad to report not entirely impossible (although I did have to resort to paper & pen and some fragments of sticker to help me keep track of what I was working out.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I run a Mac and have no such problems.
I run a Mac too (but a ten- year -old one so it's still MSE):D
No choice... must use Windows.
I can't be doing with malware - life's complicated enough as it is and I don't need eejits interfering with my computer. But I do run a virtual windows PC emulator using XP so I can run things like Publisher and Access which macs don't run. Hardly ever need to though.
In theory if my Virtual PC gets infected I can just run Time Machine backwards until it's pre-infection, and the infection can't escape into the mac environment anyway. But I've shied away from surfing the web from the PC to try to avoid exactly this kind of troubleThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Any NP interested in astrology?
I'm Virgo, what signs are the NP?
I'm the wrong one. They just got me wrong. End of.
I've met a few people who are good at stuff like aura reading, but not for serious money. A chap down the road does this, plus he works with plants 'recording' something they give out, to him at least.
The first time this man met DW, he picked out two very specific medical problems she has, just like that. I was so taken aback, I didn't want him to tell me anything, as I like to think I'm A1, don't want to know etc.
As to the plant thing, he seems pretty genuine, spending a lot of time trying to track certain species down, though he's no gardener. His wife says that after he's done whatever he does with the plant, that's it, he moves on. (Sounds familiar somehow!:rotfl:)
I still don't know much about this guy. I've started conversations a couple of times, but in busy places where there are others, and we've been sidetracked. I still have no clue really about him, but he lectures here and abroad about the plant stuff.0 -
I've only got the free version. The web protection bit is greyed out.
Er, the most recent free Avira comes with web guard... if you are running the most recent, you should have it. I'm not necessarily recommending it, though, it comes with the Ask toolbar, so I am very on the fence as to whether I will end up switching to another antivirus.
Dave, I think it was you that mentioned strange processes in task manager, you might want to have a look at Sysinternals process explorer - it is a free microsoft product that is like task manager++, it gives you so much extra cool information.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
