Nappies are a difficult one. The different quantity packs have different special offers at any one time and the price per nappy amount displayed is pre 2for1. Requires mental arithmetic, or a phone with calculator.

Whilst on a poo theme. An item I find misleading is toilet roll. Andrex standard has 240 sheets per roll, the aloe vera one only has 160 or 180. On the face of it, seeing a discounted nine pack of aloe vera cheaper than the standard sort makes the punter want to buy aloe vera, unless they check the small details on the TT packs.

I'm one of the sad people who will stand there and work out exactly the difference because of the size of the roll in respect of sheet size and amount...and then decide what is best.

I've got the kids doing it now but with bottles of pop.....they see the special offers and compare it to different size bottles and price per 100ml and purchase accordingly.

Maths was always one of our favourite lessons on outings.... :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Agreed. And kitchen roll. H hates it, he'll tell me to be quick but I spend agrs comparing. I'm not a particular fan of kitchen roll, but on the same basis, the last time I checked, a jumbo roll of morrisons own brand is cheaper than a multipack of their value range.

I don't think supermarkets should be able to advertise something as a bargain if it isn't the cheapest way of buying a particular branded product. H still believes the largest pack is the cheapest.

The Asda 10% price guarantee winds me up as well. If an item is cheaper elsewhere, they just don't include it on the comparison. If they know howmuch Heinz beans cost, then they should know how much a packet of Maryland cookiesnor Kellogs cereal is. They conveniently seem toforget when they're on offer elsewhere.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It should be illegal to fail to supply the unit pricing on promotional prices.

The other thing that bugs me is the ability to sell by volume or weight (or neither if its bakery products).

Here is one for Single Sue, who might know what "freight tonnes" are:
I have just been struggling to work out that the relative density of peanuts (not in shell) is about 0.5.

Yes as a household we do seem to be spending serious money on peanuts - at least the sparrow hawk appreciates our efforts.

I've often thought the broadcasters need more specialist financial interviewers/reporters. The amount of out and out lies (or I think the PC term is misleads) interviewees get away with unchecked simply because the person conducting the interview isn't versed in economics is mind boggling.

And the same with science news stories. Some of the science/health spots make me cringe (especially with the LHC). Journalists who have been selected to be specific correspondents (ie economics, health, science etc) should TRY to be more knowledgeable in their subject area.

oh well, everyone should shop in waitrose then! although this may fundamentally defeat the object of trying to pay the least / kg.

If you are paying price/kg, not everything is more expensive at waitrose.

They also do much better reductions than anyone else I know :D They also reduce their deli items to stupid amounts, eg organic ham for 25p/100g

Fruit & veg at Lidl/market man, meat and whatnots at waitrose near reduction time.

I've had to give up on peanuts this year. at £40 a sack and a sack goes about five imes as quickly as a sack of horse food: feeding the birds is more expensve than having a pony.

My first tip picked up on MSE, posted in the housing board by Lynzpower, was that squeezing the toilet roll - so its oval shape not a perfect round, encourages people to tear off 2 sheets at a time rather then 3!

Don't know how anyone worked it out, but it does work.

    Here's a challenge.

Next time you are shopping try and buy some diet Coke in standard cans.

In my Tesco you can buy singles, 8's, 12's and 24's. The shelf edge ticket will show the cost per 100ml - great no problem - 8 x table isn't too much of a challenge and Tesco are doing the sums anyway.

The problem comes because people will only buy if something is on offer. However the shelf edge ticket will only have the cost per 100ml based on the unpromoted price.

If 12x330ml is £4.79 (12.1p/100ml) and 8x330ml is £3.85 (14.6p/100ml) what's the cheapest per can? It's easy - Tesco give you the answer.

What if you can buy 2 x 8x330ml for a promotional £5.00? You need to do the sums yourself because the shelf edge doesn't have a price per 100ml based on the promotional price. Sometimes there will be a promotion on the 24s' and occasionally pallet of 32's as well as a 2 x 8's offer.

Well if I get sick of this I might pop over to Asda. They sell 15's and 30's just to keep life simple - the 15's are on a price down at the moment.

I drink a lot of diet Coke - it's not easy*.

*It's just as complicated with pepsi - I just don't like the taste.

Another nice people survey: coke or Pepsi? Diet coke or Pepsi max?

We are a coke/ diet coke family.

On pricing. However much you buy gets drunk. So probably comparing the price of a 6 pack against the price of an 8 pack is valid. Both will be drunk by the week end.

neither. in all but unusualy circumtances its a mixer, even then we use i rarely. I had a rum and coke a couple of years ago...so which ever is cheaper, and one of those things for us it makes more sense to buy in cans than bottles.
