    Thanks treliac, and everyone else.

She died at 7pm this evening. I was there until about 3.30 this afternoon. I'm so glad I was able to go. My dad seems to be coping well so far. My middle brother is going to fly down to be with him tomorrow, while I stay at home with my kids - DS is taking it v badly as expected - and sort out a few things here. I'll go on Friday. I think my other two brothers will probably go on Friday too, so it'll be all four of us with my dad. I'm feeling specially grateful at this time that I belong to one of those rare families where all the siblings get along just fine.

So sorry to hear this. Thinking of you.

It always is tricky saying ''I'm glad her suffering is over''. I'm so very sad for you all to have lost her. Poor ds.....and you, how are YOU?

Well, I'm glad her suffering is over. If I could have her back healthy, I would in a heartbeat, of course, but the existence she was enduring recently was awful for her, and the dementia meant that those of us who love her had already lost a lot of her a long time ago. I'm not sure how long my dad could have carried on under that strain, either.

I'm sad, of course, and I cry every now and again - I'm crying now, in fact. I ache for the memory of who she was when she had her mind working properly, but I'm peaceful that this was her time to go. Also, although it's been doing my head in that my kids have such different body clocks, just now it's very handy because I can spend a long time with each of them at bedtime separately.

X-posted with treliac and silvercar. Thanks both of you.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

  • Sorry to hear about that Lydia. Never an easy thing to go through.

Lydia, so sad to hear your news. I can't imagine what you must be going through. Although not a regular to this sort of thing I have said a prayer tonight for you, the kids and your Dad and thanking God for your lovely Mum. Sending you some virtual hugs too.

My condolences LydiaJ. At least you know she's in a better place, not suffering now.

What thing do NP's for job interview prep?

It's been a few years now since I've had to do one, but I always tried to study the company's operations in detail, read the annual report, press releases, media articles, etc.

I also try to find someone that works there, or used to work there, and get as much inside info about the role and company culture as possible, and speak to their clients/customers and/or experience their services myself.

Obviously the above works better in some sectors than others, but the point is to do as much research as possible about the employer and what their priorities are.

Beyond that, I've always recommended people read up on interview techniques if you don't do a lot of interviewing yourself. Many of the agencies that recruit professionals have quite useful tip sheets and booklets on their websites.

This one is a bit simplistic and aimed at less senior roles, but the "competency based" sheet at least gets you thinking along the right lines to have mentally prepared answers to the sort of questions about your experience that are likely to be asked.

What thing do NP's for job interview prep? I find I'm more nervous than DH now that he's pretty much decided to dip his toe the market. I'm also realising he has a plethora of very bold or pink ties. I hope the rest are in London and not at the bottom of a box somewhere. I hate the casual cothes in the City thing....

Not distracting from the tone of the thread but prep, prep, prep.

Is he being headhunted or has he applied for something? I normally memorise the keywords in the job spec and run through the competency questions.

I also have killer heels and an armor of makeup but I don't think that would suit fir.
