Well I had an eventful day yesterday. I didn't get the job and ended up going out for a 'quick beer' with my boss.
We got thrown out of one venue at about 2am because I got a little frisky with a bloke that tried to steal my bag. I don't think he'll be doing that that again. I have now been barred from a pub for the first time in my life and my hand hurts where he ran into my fist.
You stand less chance of hurting yourself with a palm strike. Same for elbows.0 -

Knee in the crotch and a quick turn back to the bar usually means you avoid being thrown out. Especially if you throw a casual "bloody drunks, rolling around on the floor" comment over your shoulder when the bouncers arrive.0 -
I have copied yours and Lir's posts and e-mailed them to him as a boost and I think, only one person on the course (of 15..the college near NDG) had a TC prior to exams and it was what he called a High St TC and out of London.
I think before the course, he wasn't 100% on who to apply to if that makes sense as there are sooo many and each app is so involved. Certainly, the standard of his applications post LLB are of a higher standard and more geared to the particular firm than they would have been if he done them pre course.
That's true, but people do move from from other similarly ''ranked'' firms different practice areas....LOTS of them...so area is very important now he has found direction, but a TC in a similarly ''class'' firm is IMO, better than nowt.
.He called OH this morning and has decided to do 3 apps every week from now on.....and, fortunately, we can afford to fund the course (there goes my new extension again) and a small allowance.
Only one has to be the right one. And three done well are better than ten done poorly BUT, 3 a week is few, IMO, too few. DH's lot were told seven to ten a week. DH did one long one a work day...(DS will know the diff types of application) and 5-ten a non working day of the dshorter type.
There are more half year intakes now though, so, maybe not so bad....for dh most dead lines were between Jan and June IIRC/
TBH, whatever happens happens...sometimes talking to dh and friends there is little rhyme or reason to it at times. DH is shocked at some of his firms intake this year and gave his first wholly negative feedback form on one of them. Sometimes the recruitment tests etc are ridiculous.0 -
Had a fire, thought it was fun and easy cleared about 6 metres by twelve, spent the rest of the afternoon trying to have another, couldn't get it started LOL. First job tomorrow, then first half of one side of the Cake will be CLEAR!
Full of splinters/thorns.....ouch.0 -
Hey everyone!
Been away a bit - tell you about it shortly.
Before I catch up with what you've all been up to, a query for the bookworms. I'm looking for a good book on english legends (ie robin hood, !!!!!! turpin etc) so am looking for suggestions. Can be one book covering the whole gamut, or a book on each.
Look forward to your replies.
Be back in a bit (though I may start throwing up responses to what i read...)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It doesn't help that the girlfriends dad is a super clever high flying QC and, whilst son is his own person, he kind of feels he should be soaring already and it's just not going to happen like that. Lot's more slog and no money years to go through first.
Most of them are near me - BBP on Red Lion Street, Inns of Court School of Law in Gray's Inn, College of Law on Store Street.
If it's any consolation, being the daughter of the super clever high-flying QC puts a fair amount of pressure on, too (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I have in the past been asked for my exam certificates from school - which should be irrelevant considering I've got degree paperwork instead. The worst though was when I was asked for paperwork for day long IT courses I'd done where I used to work (Word, Excel, that sort of thing). I had chucked them out so I was expected to resit the courses. Thankfully they saw sense eventually but it was like pulling teeth. I'd kept the useful bit - the coursework books - because I could actually use those, but they were no good as they didn't prove I'd sat the courses.i'm now wondering where my phd certificate is.....
I had the old routine of recieving a job offer, then having to hunt everywhere for the certificates.:o Couldn't find my degree one.:o Ordered a replacement from university. Presented it & accepted the compliment about the certificate having been well maintained.:o Went home. Tidied up the next day & found the old one!:o
Davesnave, your contraption looks ace. Can I borrow a corner?:D I'd be jealous, except for the fact that it looks bigger than my whole garden!
To everyone metioning the car insurance - shop around. I saved nearly £150 by a wee bit of internet research. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

LIR, have you thought about one of those shredder things?
I have been researching them online. I have a huuuge amount of trees and shrubs etc that need some serious pruning but being slap bang in the middle of a town a bonfire with the debris isn't really a viable option. A supply of free mulch is an attractive bonus.
Has anyone got a shredder?

I don't know if I ever told you who dh's cousin was? Its another pressure and profile one. His other cousin was very publically disgraced, dragged through court and whats the barrister one of ''stuck off''? while dh was making applications. Also an unbelievable amount of people interviewing dh had been taught by his dad. Not good, not good at all.0 -
Well, we are away on holiday.....bit of a nightmare start as my alarm went off but I promptly went back to sleep and woke with a start an hour later. We managed to get the car packed but then trying to get the bike carrier fitted took almost as long and made us 25 minutes late (I am a stickler for time)
Unfortunately, all the messing about and then the drive down hereand unloading the car has been too much for my ailing body so I had the pleasure (!) of having to use a wheelchair around the local supermarket with middle son as my pusher.......I think boy racer wheelchair pusher is a more apt description, it was blooming scary, I think I am lucky to still have my knees intact! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
