Ah, is that why I've never got to meet you in RL Charlie, only your Angels and Bosley;)?

I was asked it once which gave me the idea. I said, "oh, erm. It's 56 isn't it? Why do you ask?".

"Because nobody ever gets it right" was the reply. I got the job managing a shop, my first job after leaving uni. £175/wk (net) plus 10% of gross profits (ie profit after stock costs but not rent, rates, wages etc)..

I thought everyone on the internet was just a made up aspect of someone's deep psychological issues - I know I am...

I was wondering whether you wanted to drop by one day so you could give your opinion on the the extension for the nice people but it will be difficult if I don't really exist...

It looks like there may be some work coming up at my work. I am far from in favour given the marginal tax rate of 72% for any additional earnings before next April. I am thinking of agreeing to do 4 days/week possibly worked over 5 days on the undertaking that my salary does not change and the extra income is all paid as employers pension contribution. Also hopefully it won't start until January as I have enough days off left to take most of December off and I have a lot of painting to do.
    I think....

The last interview I had, ended with me falling off my stool in Gow's at around 9:30 in the evening ( we had been there since 11:45 )

Can't remember many of the questions

    Did you get the job?

I ask people what they know about the company (ie have they done their homework), why they want the job (what's their motivation) and why they think I should give them the job and not someone else (what's their self-perception). I also try and find out a bit about them as a person to see how they would fit in. The only time I've been unhappy with the person I've recruited was when they were the only person who turned up and I had to hire someone. Possibly not my finest moment in manager-land. I should have put it back out to the recruiters instead.

for this job, dh was asked about music. It totally relaxed him, they chatted about jazz, instruments, education in Italy, why he'd chosen to go to uni in Uk, so on and so forth. As a result he was able to relax, give his opinion on things like education..showing his ability to reason and make decisionswhere there is more than one way forward, and make judgements that were crucial in his life. He had not one single legal question, and was hired on the spot. DH was told by the partner who employed him first that he interviews every lawyer for the position of partner, even trainees or lateral moves. The important thing, he says, is working with someone who is both sensible, intelligent, articulate and pleasant. Shame he didn't do ALL the recruiting...dh wouldn't have nasty bosses now!:rotfl::rotfl:

Well, I survived and didn't say anything too spectacularly whacky.... they did expressly praise one of my answers to one of the questions on the application form .... almost to the point of stroking it and worshipping it.

But that's not enough to get the job.

Had to laugh though, I asked when they'd be deciding/when somebody'd start and they said it's their really busy season, so would be deciding by the middle of next week. My experience of "the real world" would have been starting next Monday if it's that urgent/important .... so, it's dreckly (as they say around here).

I think I was probably their best candidate... but they'll be weighing up the risks of them hiring somebody different to anybody they've hired before.

Anyway .... stopped off at the shop and treated myself to a "reduced" curry and a pot of chocolate mousse for lunch.

Pastures, it may also be worth mentioning your "hobby" in the interview (though don't say you want to turn it into a career). It will help show how aligned you are as a candidate to their business. Damn, I wish I was doing the interview, I'd hire you!
Did that in the app form as there was a question/box about that ... and also in the interview.

    Whinge alert.

DS is good at rugby. He started a new school in September, made the A team and now he's been made captain.

Wednesday afternoons are match day. Every week, bar two, from the beginning of September until Christmas are away matches. This week was a home match. I've just had a text message that today's match is in fact Away, again! I've been everywhere within Worcestershire, into Herefordshire and Shropshire and Birmingham too. I feel lousy today and we have DD's parents evening appt at 4.30 - this means I go down to Worcester to see the game and I either leave him down there so he can have match tea with his friends and go back to his own school after parents evening, or I drag him to parent's evening.

Next term is football. How can we physically play every game away? Is it that no-one wants to play our boys or what? They're only 10 and 11 and some of these journeys are over an hour each way for a 40 minute game :(

No need to reply, just venting. I'll be alright in a minute!
