What this firm do is: imagine if you had a great hobby, but you could only ever look through the catalogues at the pictures because there were so many things you could buy and you can't touch them and decide over time what to buy, to make things.... well, they supply the trade.... so I'd get my hands on the whole product range and be able, over time, to touch/feel and think about everything that's available .... so I could know what I was buying and feel confident it was what I wanted.... and there's a hefty staff discount that's not to be sniffed at.0

PN, I've done picking/packing when working somewhere on a contract grad role and all hands were needed, I thought it was a great job, great cammeraderie between workers and no waiting around. In fact, I really liked it, and would do similar now if I were relaiably able. I don't think your previous roles need to be a problem, because my employers then took students, graduates, agency workers, anyone basically (I know lots of similar places don't, but you have a convincing reason to be in the area long term and reliably). If you show you have a longish term commitment (staying in area to be near old and recently bereaved but independent parent...don't mention frequent daytime emergencies, just that you want to be near to cook/clean/care and perhaps return to this area at this stage in your life...''coming home'').0

I've done some before - as a holiday job 35 years ago. I love it too. It's all tiny/small stuff ... akin to, say, picking orders of gobstoppers and packets of space dust (for size comparison). Only "manual" part that'd be harder would be any inbound boxes/deliveries that'd need unpacking/lifting and storing - and, of course, the packing/posting of individual packages.lostinrates wrote: »PN, I've done picking/packing when working somewhere on a contract grad role and all hands were needed, I thought it was a great job, great cammeraderie between workers and no waiting around. But I'd be interested in what people are buying and thinking about what they're doing with it, seeing the choices others make, realising the combinations/permutations .... and there'd also be some 'customer support/telephone answering' at some point where it'd be necessary to discuss and advise ... and that "discuss and advise" is the level I want to attain.0 -
Pastures, it may also be worth mentioning your "hobby" in the interview (though don't say you want to turn it into a career). It will help show how aligned you are as a candidate to their business. Damn, I wish I was doing the interview, I'd hire you! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Nonsense! You have intelligence, a great eye for detail and you have an interest in the product, so you should get the job. :APasturesNew wrote: »Got an interview for a low pay job later this morning.... I doubt I'll get it as they'll be hung up on my past jobs/income and probably will choose some "local mum" instead.
You, nobody else. Simples!

We are very green here ATM, as the 'man' who services the Aga hasn't shown up yet. I am beginning to wonder if I omitted some vital detail when I summoned him by answerphone.....like the address!
But it's so warm, we can cope with just the woodburner. For every winter week when we do without the Aga we save about £35 -40. :j0 -

I know, its good. But I've now got the dogs in season, and mopping in a cold house is not nice. I'm having a house work day today as my house keeps conspiring against me to become a pigsty....usually before my mother plans to visit  .0 -

Or me. I'd hire you too, Pastures. Everyone's giving you good advice for the interview. Just want to say I agree with the other suggestions.
Knock 'em dead!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Very best of luck PN!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
