If I was a gamer I'd need a faster computer but frankly for most other needs macs peaked many years ago and any so-called improvements are entirely notional IMHO.
Still haven't bought a smartphone although I've got an ipod (which I accidentaly still call my walkman). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Anyway - as I see it, the minute I get ONE penny for doing all of this it gives the green light to everybody to assume I'll be there 24/7 forever.
I'd not be taking carers' allowance even if it were 4x the amount and if there were no criteria! It's a license for everybody to assume everything's tickety boo.
The solution to that is perfectly simple, don't tell 'em that you're getting it.
If you're stuck with the job you should get the money. You can still guilt trip the others into helping out.0 -
we'll be going back to mac for next computer....dh approached the technological age (which he avoided until graduating) via Mac, me through PC though had v. limited Mac experience. Having struggled to get Mac properly I struggled when returning to ''normal'' computer, and I know it will be as hard the otherway around. We'll be wanting a system where Mac does some stuff and PC does other stuff.
I'm thinking of trying to find a course about designing and managing websites for luddites.
we've sprung a leak I hadn't noticed. In our ''excellent'' bit of roof. Think it will be something to do with flashing (another bit where two bits built at different times join). Can't believe no one has spotted it before now, but its still not wet.....but stained.0 -
Very helpful, thanks. I shan't be spending any money upgrading my phone then. Searching around a bit, I found this:When Microsoft released Windows Phone 7 last year, they completely revamped the interface to make it much easier to interact with. Some would even say they’ve made it pretty. At this time, many existing Windows Mobile owners assumed that Outlook sync would work the same way it had before [with windows mobile 6.5]. It didn’t. Disappointed, confused, and upset are only a few of the words that would describe the general reaction to the situation. Amazingly, Microsoft offers no method to sync Windows Phone 7 to Outlook directly via USB.
That's from the website of CompanionLink, who developed the software for a workaround to get outlook to sync with an android. It does exactly what I need, but incredibly slowly, and with the possibility of randomly deleting calendar events, or changing their dates, so that I don't trust it. If CompanionLink worked properly, I'd be happy with my android, so I'm not about to get a W7 phone if I'd need CompanionLink to make it sync.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
One day it will be us - well, some of us, anyway. The question is, will we remember these conversations, and will we act on our past selves' advice and go into a home sooner rather than later?
I've told my kids to shoot me if I have to go into a home, after working in one and seeing how some of the staff treat the residents, I most def do not want to go into a home.
My parents instructions are for them not to be put into a home, if they need care, then buy it in from the equity in their house (plus they are a little errr....vocal shall we say about the government using their house to pay for them to be in a care home, doesn't matter how much I tell them about choice, better homes etc, they are rather eek about it all - I dare not broach the subject too often as my mum gets all rather het up about it)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

PN should be claiming Carers Allowance as a result of providing care to old, if old is recieving attendance allowance.
Neither are means tested PN, so get in there...
Carers allowance is not payable if the earnings of the carer exceeds £100 per week.We made it! Lucky begger, went on sale in our closest big town today but as usual, no pennies to buy any tickets and they will probably be sold out by the time I do have.

Well, the lanterns were beautiful. Stood at the top of the hill and at any time I had about a hundred in my field of vision. There were far more than 500 set off. They went in the direction of Berkhamsted, not St Albans.

Anyone tried any of the windows phones? I'm thinking something microsoft-related might do a better job of talking to outlook.
I know you've probably already decided against, but BBC's Click did a thing on the new Nokia Microsoft phone that might be worth watching.
They said it was promising, but the danger at the moment is being an early adopter, tied into a contract for 18 months or so with a phone that doesn't meet your requirements.
I mentioned here earlier this year, got an HTC Wildfire with 700 minutes and unlimited texts and a small amount of data for £15 per month, phone cost me £60 (Tesco Mobile). It's been very good so far. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? You can pick up an iPhone 3GS pretty cheaply these days. Apple do a thing whereby if it breaks out of guarantee then they replace it for a reduced price.
I am far from being an Apple fanboy, in fact I find that side of things quite creepy. However the product itself is great, simple to use and it works. I always had the cheapest phone I could buy that had a radio in it before this. I said however that if a phone can out that was a Blackberry with GPS and a music player then I'd buy it.0
