You can get the handyman to wall mount them for you - you obviously need to get suitable ones. With a thermostat, there's no need to control them - indeed you could usefully remove the control knob. Obviously electricity costs will increase, but it'll be a heck of a lot less than a home.
The trouble is the electrics. There's only one socket in most rooms and then a daisy-chain of extension leads for all electrical stuff. I'm not sure the electrics would be up to the job.... it might cause a fire.

And, as it's the winter - and an old is sitting there with their walking frame, unable to do much at the best of times .... and hoping for sheltered at some future point .... when/how do you make a decision to be making huge expensive changes, with all the disruptions that'd cause?

Also, we have to factor in the sudden and unexpected bereavement - and the shock of that - plus all the many changes we've already made to the house, old's systems, old's way of life, furniture layout, new items, de-clutter .... lots been going on already. It might all be one big change too many and the old might simply decide to not wake up.

Even this week they're adjusting to: a fall, carers, walking frame, inability to walk/stand.

Can you persuade your mum to move into a flat like yours? Then when she's nice and warm, perhaps she'll consent to selling the house.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The trouble is, where do you get one? Mine's not very suitable. And it's very temporary. My old couldn't even access this place to be brought round to see where I'm living - and it's ground floor.

I'd be having to find a private rental bungalow in a random location - not easy.

My old needs an old-adapted place... a sheltered one... but they aren't for private rent.

Do you know how expensive it would be to add a couple of fused spurs for wall-mounted electric heaters? As long as the mains into the house is good, it may be possible to an extra consumer unit and run a couple of cables to the spurs in trunking. That may not be as bad as you think, and you can't really leave your mum in the cold.

I've no idea. I've also no idea how good the mains into the house is .... but I'd imagine it'd involve stripping wallpaper, redecorating ... mess, madness and mayhem - with carers coming in/going out and Doctors dropping in etc. Which wouldn't be ideal.

On the plus side, if he wants the London place back again it might still be available ... and if he doesn't then it's the perfect way to have achieved a move.

    :)

Maybe NDG wants a lodger :)

surface mounted? Not the best solution normally, but in this situation where you think the whole lot will need redoing buy any future buyer it might be ok?

The old's bedroom's toasty .... radiator kicks out heat .... and I've fitted an aerial/TV in there and a new carpet... so they could stay there if it gets cold :)

Thing is, the old needs to be back in the land of the sane and making coherent decisions - I can't be arbitrarily deciding to knock things about ... especially as it'd involve a lot of extra work for me, on top of the extra work that's dropping in on me daily from nowhere, which is on top of the ton of jobs/work that I've already identified.

It's a full-time 3-person job for a month to start to get everything sorted that needs sorting.

Realised this morning that the old doesn't possess a long overcoat or any winter boot type of footwear for example. Or how about sorting out the phone so that the old can answer it from the room they are in. Or there's looking into getting a wetroom fitted. Or chasing up where the gardener got to... or clearing the gutters.... or even getting my own stuff out of the place as I've not managed to get that done yet beyond my initial 2 cases and 2 boxes....

Tons and tons of little jobs, big jobs .... tons. No time for more!
