The sad thing is the breakdown, not the drugs that are helping.

If you'd broken your leg, you'd not feel bad or unworthy to have painkillers, plastercasts and crutches. It's the same thing. Breaking your leg is the problem, the other stuff helps.

The amount of times I have had to say this to my mum, she doesn't like anti depressants at all and doesn't see the need for them....so, almost word for word what you have just said, is what I say!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Thanks for the support everyone. I have made a list for today that involves doing laundry and helping DD tidy her room and not a lot else. Oh, and sending a text message to the builder to remind him that I'd like heating in my bathroom again some time soon.

I hope things go well for you. Try not to get too emotionally involved in the case if you can help it. Just let the legal peeps get on with, speak to NDG to check things you're not clear on, and look upon it as a great big bonus if it comes good.
You don't need this to get you so anxious about it's outcome that you go back downhill.

Just wanted to add a word agreeing with this advice. If you let yourself get emotionally involved with the outcome of your case, it will drive you nuts. The best way is to try not to think about it except when they need to you to provide them with information, and get on with your life. Any money you get out of it at the end is then a bonus.

I am so grateful that my own circumstances provided me with plenty of other things to focus on so that my family's PI claim has not been at the forefront of my attention. It's just coming up to two years since my family's accident. My PI solicitor has just written asking me and DS to fill in a questionnaire about his head injury, trying to sort out the most recent draft of my "witness statement" (which isn't about the accident itself but about my relationship with late-nearly-ex so they can put a financial value on what the kids and I have lost) and saying that she's been chasing the coroner but he hasn't yet got all the info he needs to set a date for the second pre-inquest review. If I had any emotional investment in this thing getting sorted any time soon, or if I was waiting for the money with plans on how to spend it, I'd have lost the plot completely by now!

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    !

I agree with this too. Our Italian court case moves at a glacial pace compared to the UK system, but the only way to say sane is to consider the money gone, but that this is an adminitrative proceedure (slightly different for us as we are subject to a counter claimed against too, so in the worst circumstance we might actually have to pay money as a result).

Just go with the flow but assume you'll get nowt...then if you get a little you'll be really pleased :)

Shame about Jimmy Saville passing on. When I was a lot younger he led a charity sponsored walk (well it was a sponsored walk for everybody else - he ran like it was a marathon) near my home town and the Bay City Rollers performed afterwards (they were a really big act at the time). Put a lot of hours in for good works. Not many like him any more.

Hi Pobby, good to see you back. I don't want to dash your hopes about the legal claim, but I don't want to see you getting too disappointed if you to have to settle for a much lower figure later. Claimants' lawyers almost always throw everything into the claim at the early stages, kitchen sink and all. It doesn't mean that you'll get it, though, generally for 3 reasons:

    1. The defendants out-spend you. They make a part 36 offer that's fairly low, but then they spend so much on the defence that you can't risk losing and having to pay their costs. You can get insurance to cover the defendants' costs. Do you have that (yet)? Also, these cases tend to take a long time to get to court, and you may find it all too bad for your nerves to continue.

    2. The numbers, in the end, turn out to be much lower once the expert witnesses looks at it.

    3. There's some point of law that's been overlooked or swept under the table at the early stages. For example, you went on working for the company for 4 years after they stopped paying you commission on that customer's account, so you could perhaps be deemed to have accepted the position. There's something called estoppel by convention - not sure if that would apply here, as I'm not a lawyer. (Edit: I am not saying that that is a problem for your case. It's just an example of the kind of legal argument that can get raised at a later stage.)

You may also find yourself under pressure from your own solicitors to settle at some stage, as they may prefer a sure 200% fee from a settlement than battling on to court with a chance of losing or not meeting the part 36 offer.

You've probably got a very good case, and if I were the employer I'd be worried, but don't mentally spend the proceeds of the case just yet.

I should just mention again that I am not a lawyer, but I mainly work as an expert witness and I see a lot of these cases. One recently settled for £5m after the claimants had puffed the claim up to £20m, for example. Mind you, the strategy worked quite well for them, as I didn't think the claim was really worth even £5m.

To be honest, I am less worried about the cash than seeing some form of justice. The company treat their staff in a bad way. Area of high unemployment so even the minimum wage for decent accounting staff.

Health and safety would have a field day. The boss keeps his dog in an open office and the dog does his business all over the floor. That is only a small part. Not even sure that the fork lift drivers are qualified . They drive like they are contestants in Death Race 2000. A lot more than that.

I take on board that I did continue to work for them after they did the dirty. Still, the winds of a bad time economically. in my mind, were already blowing and who is going to give a job to a 56 year old easily.

I was really miffed and told them so, that a few months earlier I was head hunted by a company. Great basic salary, commission, Audi A6, and about £80 a night for an hotel and meal. I was truly flattered but turned it down due the fact that I was loyal to that shower.

Interestingly enough, most of my customers have walked away since I left. They don`t like the dumb sales office people who are often rude and unhelpful.

For instance, a couple of weeks ago one of my customers called me up to say that they had tried to order an item that we have about 30 odd different models of only to be told that we don`t stock them.

No not the money. Funnily enough I did run through my mind what I would spend it on and came up only with a few new bits for my computer, lol. I can`t drive now and I have a economical car that my wife drives. We live a simple life.

If I do win then my wifes sister will have the best lawyer to screw over my cheating, lying brother in law. Yet that is another story.

Once again my dears, thanks for making my return really warm. I am touched. (Apart from being touched in the head, lol ).

Quick question, does my old mates FC and Carol T still tip up here?

Latest news is that Greek exports of humous and tsatsiki are down. Sure sign that we're headed for a double-dip recession.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

FC pops in with updates, she's mega busy with work stuff at the moment - read back pages for details.

Carolt got involved in a row about child benefit - she got attacked for saying that it was unfair that higher rate tax payers were losing child benefit. To be fair it was right that she lost the argument, but was attacked on all sides in the protest. She did pop back under a sockie (think it was Laura something), but was outed and stopped posting.
