To date, I've not spent a single night in hospital - wasn't even born in one as I popped out unexpectedly, no mid wife as I was appearing and there was no phone, so dad had to do the honours, then go out in the street to run to the nearest public phone box to let somebody know.0

Only person on the x-factor who I have ever met/vaguely know was voted off tonight.
Slightly embarrassed that I know someone on the x-factor.
There was this very tall chap in a hoody looking very sinister at the bottom of our road. Just as well I didn't look askance at him as he's just moved in.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I spent two or three weeks in hospital after being born, and one night each producing my two kids. Everything else that's been done to me has been as a day case - the two main ones being having all 4 wisdom teeth out simultaneously (before any of them had even begun trying to come through) and a D&C after a missed miscarriage.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
And don't get him started on 'Sauf of the river'
I was looking at starting an ebay business that took 35 hours a week (may be 34.5 hours marketing and researching stock and 30 mins listing and shipping) no profit needed in order to pocket all the tax credits, I don't think the implied NMW thing has come in yet but it is definitely planned to close this loop hole.
Had an interesting day yesterday, took DS to duty doctor yesterday at 4AM with fast shallow breathing related to a cold/virus and spent the day in A&E/children's ward with him having oxygen and nebulizers as his o2 levels were poor. Luckily he perked up enough to be allowed home at 7pm but he has to take mega-doses on a puffer. This is all new to me as neither he nor any of the other kids has had this sort of thing before.
Apart from the odd early adopter (who are no doubt seen as wierdos/toffs/magicians) I don't think they have the internet north of Birmingham do they?
Scary when that happens isn't it? I have had it with youngest several times in connection with his asthma...they get the asthma sorted out but his O2 levels will play silly beggers for days on end, which means an extended hospital stay.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Third attempt at this post, rackpad seems to be playing up so you have all been saved a lot of boring rubbish.
DS is much better, still not perfect but not worrying (even for DW, I am generally quite cool with things whereas she wants to visit the out of hours doctor at the first sign of a sniffle for the kids).
Our nearest hspitals with A&E paedeatrics seem to be 30+ minutes away (and potentially a lot more in traffic even for an ambulance) which seems a bit rubbish for a densley populated area just outside London.I think....0 -

I had managed to stay out of hospital until I reached adulthood (I was born at home)....but from age 20, I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis and had several ops to clear the gunk, each requiring a stay of between 1 and 3 days. With eldest son, I had to stay in for 7 days post delivery, middle son was 2 days, out for half a day and then back for a further 2 days and youngest was 5 days including them trying for 3 days to induce me.
My sterilisation was 4 days as it went ever so slightly wrong and my bladder went into shock and the hysterectomy was 5 days.
Not been in for myself for 10 years now though....celebrated (if you can call it that) having my hysterectomy 10 years ago yesterday. We made it! Sad news fellow petrolheads. British Indy racing car driver, Dan Wheldon, has died following an awful 15 car pile up at today's race in Las Vegas. Although they went into different branches of the sport he was a contemporary of and raced against Jenson Button, though a couple of years older. This is very, very sad. He leaves a wife and two small children. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I am 100% with you on this one michaels! I complained to my local MP when I had to take DH there when he was complaining of chest pains and having a possible heart attack. We were in the car so I started driving there but when I got to the roundabout into the town there were no signs to the hospital! They have since addressed the issue but it is a disgrace that there is nothing nearer.
So glad to hear DS is getting better. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Glad things are looking up for your DS. Hope things keep on getting better.
Having a kid in hospital is really stressful, but at least paediatric wards always seem to have decent staffing levels. I have a friend who's a district nurse but also does bank shifts at the local hospital, and she tells scary stories of understaffing on the adult wards, and gets quite upset that she's not able to provide the level of care she knows the patients deserve because she often has more patients to deal with than any one human being can adequately care for. But the kids' stuff is always awash with staff - nurses, doctors, play workers... DD had to have a blood test a few months ago. There were 4 adults there - me, a play worker, a sister and a registrar. They did it beautifully - she was unaware they'd started until after it was over - but I couldn't help feeling it could have been done with fewer people, so that the nurse/patient ratio could be better in the rest of the hospital.
My kids have had various not very stressful outpatient kind of stuff, and then the three days inpatient after the accident. (Well, DS was a patient for 3 days. DD was only a patient for 1 day, but they let her stay the extra 2 days after she was discharged because she couldn't be separated from me, and DS needed me to be there with him.) And then DS went back in a year ago to have the metalwork out of his arm. We went in in the morning, and left at 11pm. They would have kept him in overnight if we'd wanted them to, but I had nobody to look after DD overnight.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? ...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
