I was reading last night about "the final hours/days" and it said they sleep more, then slip into unconsciousness... when the frail old came and said "the old's been sleeping 5 hours" - and I said "are you sure they're asleep and not unconscious??" and dashed off.... us appearing made the ill old wake up and wonder what was going on.... been asleep. Then I realised that the frail old had lost a grip with reality as I'd been dispensing meds just 2 hours before, so the 5 hours was either a lie/attention-seeking or dementia.... and I can't work out which.

I've got one about to leave us - and the other one angry/bitter and being needy about the fact they're being left behind and expected to go first.

Having to drag the frail old up the GP's today and I am not entirely sure if their illness is just attention-seeking or a real problem... not sleeping, but I think that's the whole change of circumstances they find themselves in, so they're probably lying awake at night annoyed they can't sleep because of the restlessness of the ill old, and fearful that the ill old will peg out each night.

If TV are looking for a life swap contestant about now ... I'm up for it.

Aww PN, it's such a hard summer for you. Is ill old still eating/drinking OK? Frail old is probably full of fear too.

Did you go into the appt today ?

No idea where my certificates are (probably filed away in the loft) but I still have my results on the computer print out thing that we had sent to us (we didn't go to collect them back them, we had to rely on the good old post office to deliver), now looking very old and tea stained.

My mother has my GCSE, A level, undergrad, postgrad and professioanl certificates in her scarily organised filing system.

I have my Practising Certificate, though. It's in my not-so-organised filing system!

OH has this theory that you think everyone's sane, until you sit on a bus, or kiss someone, at which point you realise 99% of the world's mad.

Come to think of it, my mother also has (somewhere) all my speech & drama certs, my piano grades I to VI, and violin grades I to V.

Opposite was sat an OCD anorexic. First she mopped everything in sight - tray, chair arms, window etc with tissue dampened with bottled water, then she carefully opened a box of mange touts and proceeded to nibble each one to extract the tiny peas inside, leaving the pods aside. Then she went to the buffet car and bought a black coffee and a packet of nuts. She counted the nuts and carefully nibbled at 7 of them, followed half an hour later by another 7. Then resealed the bag and put it away.

Further down the carriage was a guy who kept shouting "I'm on the train on my mobile, can you hear me?" into his phone - whenever the train went in a tunnel.

I just finished reading a book: 421,000 Habits of Successful People with OCD.

Looks like we may be making a trip up to the local hospital in the morning, eldest came home (eventually) tonight and he has managed to hurt his ankle. I did ask why he didn't seek help where he did it (which is literally around the corner from the big hospital) rather than making his way home on the train to a town where the A&E closes at 10.30.

The silly begger went on a trampoline (hmm, he was supposed to be filming) and obviously the warm up warmed up his ligaments a little too well as they didn't hold his ankle steady and it went over, his ankle dislocated (not unusual before anyone panics), he bounced again, went over on the opposite side and it went back in.

Unusually for him though, it is painful and he does have some swelling....I doubt there is a fracture, probably more a case it hasn't quite gone back in correctly but he has point blank refused to be taken up to the big hospital tonight and wants to see how it is in the morning. I' ve done what I can, made sure there is good circulation, good colour etc to the foot and no loss of sensation in the toes and done the usual elevate and ice but grrr, male pride really annoys me at times.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Davesnave, that looks amazing.

How often do you have to replace the plastic cover on polytunnels? Is the hedge the north boundary? How do you find ventilation in them?

Plastic covers, well-fitted, should last a minimum of 7 years.

The hedge is west boundary and there's a shelter belt of trees beyond. Obviously, they reduce light late on summer afternoons, but by then, as you're hinting, things can be pretty hot inside the average tunnel. This tunnel will have side ventilation to 1m and double sliding doors both ends.

    No. Yes
    Yes

It's been a bad day; some moments when more marbles were showing to be lost ... a tough day with new challenges .... I'm lucky I have an end date, a break clause ... this weekend. Got to arrange my B&B yet though.

I'm glad you have a break to look forward to. At this point anywhere and anything would be a respite for you. You are doing fantastically well under impossible circumstances for anyone.

I have spent the last two days sorting through a four drawer filing cabinet, relabelling stuff and throwing out old docs etc. I am about three quarters of the way through and shattered but at least we can open the drawers now they are not crammed full to bursting.

DH has just reminded me there are still loads of docs he has been dealing with while I was ill and it is all in a huge ledger thing. As his idea of filing is to just shove things in any roughly appropriate (only to him) plastic folder - sigh - it looks as if I still have at least a days work to do, if not more.
