I'm pleased for you PN. Seems about right; you can be handy to drop in, but not too handy.
We were lucky to escape most of Billy Blue Hat et al. DD1 was too advanced to need him and DD2 wasn't interested either, despite being a poor reader. Dad read to her at bedtime, of course, but that was for pure pleasure. Before the 'real' book, we would sometimes have to fit in a bit of the reader sent home from school, but it was just a duty.
DD2 was a film buff by the age of 4 and remains one to this day. Someone with hundreds of films on video could never have found the goings-on in the Village With Three Corners stimulating. I'm glad to report that none of her collection featured cartoon robots, nor Pokewhatsits, though she was into some of the quality Japanese stuff when it started to appear here.
If anything taught DD2 to read, beyond her structured programme followed rigorously with Mum each day, it was scanning Radio Times for the films she wanted to record!:rotfl:0 -

My darling infant was a bit under the weather today. Not seriously, he had a bit of a stomach bug. He described it as, "My tummy is confused", which is a rather interesting way to put it!
He did then get a bit upset when we were reading about baby turtles, and realised that baby turtles' Mummy and Daddy sod off, rather than looking after them.
I love the things kids say. The almost 5 year old was sat chatting with me. I can't recall exactly what we were talking about, but they asked if I liked something. Whatever it was, was too extravagant for me, & without thinking I said (nah, that's too 80's for me". The little devil stood with a confused look on his face & said "too 80's? What's that mean? Does it mean too much?":D
Brilliant how he got it...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
In my car, it was maths questions not stories to keep them entertained!
Just back from eldest's 18th birthday party, the owner of the venue did an absolutely amazing job on the cake, it was certainly a talking point. I, however, have completely overdone things and now can't move without extreme pain.....but we had a lot of fun so it is worth it.

Giving it up was fine, I don't feel caffiene shakes or anything, but I wouldn;t say I feel any better or different, and I'm craving it quite badly....I was alcohol free to, until last night when I had a bit of wine...seriously, I know medicinal drinking is a bad idea but it was a better cure to the thing I was at than anything else I could think of ...(most were disproportionately violent)...the coffee is c=alling to me....is this really good for the health, this coffee free existance?
Smoking I gve up eaisly, most foods when I give them up I lose the taste/want within a fortnight...but coffee ..not so..
anyone else given it up and rehad it? Is it as good as I remember, will it give me a headache and is it worth giving up to tste that smokey, roasted goodness?
I have only ever had 1 mouthful of the foulness that is coffee. Never again.
God help anyone who tries to prevent me having a cup of tea though...:coffee:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Just a thought, you could fool your taste buds by having a cup of decaf coffee. To me that is like trying to get drunk on low alcohol lager, but if its just the taste it could work for you. No caffeine, so it won't give you a headache.
Reminds me of a very poor taste joke, that really makes me laugh, but I doubt would go down well on TNPT.:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
That's brilliant
My mistake - I somehow thought we were fellow [STRIKE]-luddites[/STRIKE] traditonalists holding out against the spread of the smartphone.
sigh- I guess it's just me then.

Interesting fact - Po on teletubbies was played by Pui of Chris and Pui on Show Me Show Me. And allegedly despite all the evidence to the contrary, Justin (Mr Tumble) has a wife.
Mr Tumble, as a character, and a show, is to my mind, phenomenally impressive. Love all the sign language & interaction with the kids.

Finally caught up. I'll pop to t'other place soon.
I despair at some peoples tastes in music....
Meanwhile, & especially as davesnave is about, my peppers appear to be going black!:( Am I going to lose them? We've not had frost or anything. Do I need to move them indoors?

Interesting to read of LIR's caffeine abstinence.
I met up with a friend to go & see Adam Hills the other night. We chatted about life & stuff. Related to this, the weekend just gone, I (out of charater for me) pretty much did nothing (except a bit of reading) & got wasted. Can't recall the last time I got wasted.
Friend & I were chatting about how we could be easily percieved to be engaging in a lot of destructive behaviour at the current time.
Anyone else feel similar? Or have times of year when they are less productive, act out of character, or are even destrctive in their behaviour? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Phew...it's hard work catching up with the NP thread after a weekend offline
But first of all,to PN for sorting out that place.

I love coffeeWe always use this:
Best tasting coffee IMO.
And the heating is already on at ours. Mrs Wheezy is always cold
Even when it's warm, there's always an extremity which is cold. Usually feet, hands or bum.0
