Aww lir, you say the nicest things. DD has been asking when we are going to see you again. :) Once I have got my builder to stop postponing things and actually come and finish my work, you must come and visit us here as we discussed.

That would be really lovely. I'm so touched your DD asked about me. But...DD does now that I can't fit little black pony in the car to visit doesn't she? :D Seriously, kids to be v. envious of...bright, polite, beautiful and engaging.

Ah, you see, I'm playing sneaky games. Or lazy as hell.

I love how you could never be accused of worrying about internet security. (lir holds head in hands to stop her shaking it).

feral chicken was back this morning and let me have a closer look. No sign of parasites, but she's had a wing injury at somepoint....its not grevious, and she let me handle it, but she is holding it lower. Nothing to do about that, she's certainly not uncomfportable in a way that makes me think of the ''solution'' to pretty much all chicken ailments!

I have thought about it. No names, no serial numbers - just pics.

Thank you Lydia in providing me with more ammunition for my discussion with my DW over whether it is (past) time for DS to have his first haircut...

michaels - is the child in your new avatar the same child as in your old avatar, or somebody different?

This was interesting - from the picture and the comments I was all ready to take against the woman but actually I have a lot of sympathy for three reasons:
Firstly cost, why should you be forced to the expense of buying a new uniform when you might have a perfectly serviceable set of skirts bought only the previous term (I guess this is also an environmental issue) Some posters who pay 10k per term for education and 2.5k for a set of uniforms may not realise that even an extra 30 quid can be an issue for many people's budgets.
Also skirts are for many the 'traditional' female school garment, other cultures protect their traditions, we seem happy to ignore ours when they are no longer convenient
And finally i dislike making new 'laws' only because it is difficult to enforce existing ones - the issue the school has is not the wearing of skirts but their inability to police a rule on minimum skirt length. Would it not have been better to have policed the existing rule effectively rather than change it in this way, I know which approach would have given me more confidence that the school 'leadership team' was in control.
Huge 15 year old !!!!!ing about human rights & school uniform, and her 30 year old mother.

Lucky your kids are not in the state school system otherwise you would probably have had a flag put on your file, DS would have been interviewed by a child psychologist and you would be having regular visits from social services...
For my birthday, Isaac painted a plate for me, which was then fired and given to me. I've had to put it somewhere subtle, as everyone who looks at it does a double-take.

it's a pink rocket. With two round booster rockets at one end....
    I think....

DS made a 3D rocket at school out of the usual cardboard tubes and yoghurt pots and things. It is red, and also has two rocket boosters at one end. He is very proud of it because it won second prize in the class competition, but I'm afraid my thoughts on seeing it were much the same as your thoughts about Isaac's plate.

Opposite problem in my mind: early date with dh....summer exhib ition and a picture of a disected giant penis being carried around byu lilliputian carracters. I turned my head this way and that and said ''what IS that?''. Immeadiately I said that I realised what it was, and turned round to see a gallery full of blushing people and dh who, was then just ';'little man who's quite sweet but not for me, but I can't hurt his feelings'' was valiantly trying not to blush or snigger.....I think he might have misinterpreted that briefly for a little more innocence than I can take credit for.

You think you are safe and then something like this goes and happens:
    Facebook photo tagging
And of course the internet being what it is once you have put something out their even if you try and delete it there may already be a copy that future technology will allow to be used in ways you had not anticipated.

Which makes me wonder - I wonder if you could use writing style and may be typos and then crawl the internet to find all contributions to any websites that might be by the same author?

Local-ish state school, my friend's daughter just gone into year 13 (upper 6th) and been made a prefect and told that her first role is to inspect the skirt lengths of girls lower down the school and issue report slips to those with skirts finishing above the knee.

The uniform is a stupidly designed "kilt" style, chosen to make it difficult for the girls to bulk it up at the waist. Consequently it makes broader girls look even broader.
