I hope they [STRIKE]didn't[/STRIKE] read the meter before it started running backwards!
    I did!
    ;)

The thing is that it will be running both backwards and forwards until they change it. It's now measuring my net usage - so it will run backwards during the day when the panels are generating and we're not using much, and then it will run forwards in the evenings when it's dark and we've got stuff switched on. Actually it would be perfectly possible for them to use that to work out how much I've used by comparing it with the reading on the generation meter, but they prefer to measure usage and generation separately.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I need immediate help!

There is a letter on my keyboard totally broken and I need it for an online password.

I'm going to go searching for one to copy and paste but if anyone's reading, please could someone post up the letter between P and R, in the Upper Case variety :o

The guys have all gone - although only next door. My electricity meter is running backwards. :)

Yes, yes, I know the electricity company will fit a different kind of meter soon that doesn't do that, and I'm not planning to conceal it and defraud them, etc. It's just nice to see it doing it. Am now going to put the washing machine on and see what happens.

    So exciting! :j

Also, for future reference, if on windows, on the start search type in keyboard. Run the program on-screen keyboard.

I had a great new kitchen (or be it Homebase rather than anything posh) - we got it finally finished when we put the house up for sale.

The current extension should have a new kitchen but that part is on hold pending budget and our ability to put up with the disruption.
    I think....

Thank you both. And the extra advice! This laptop is dying. I can't seem to keep one for more than 18 months. The letter has died, the return, space bar, delete and backspace don't work until about five minutes after booting up(!) and the battery has officially carked it, so I have to sit very still, attached to the plug.

Have I missed Generali leaving? Gutted. I've been trying to stay away a bit and focus more on RL, in fact I've stopped posting on and nearly looking at the House Buying Board altogether. I've answered the same things too many times to be clear anymore, I think, and the board has grown so much that I think it's hard for the people that know the answers to be heard as being correct amongst amongst all the well meaning, but wrong, pontificating and noise that goes on there. :o

A belated au revoir to Gen..... who made economics almost understandable. See you on the other side of Wealth Mountain, I guess. ;)

    I've suddenly remembered, I have a very bad A level in economics...explains a lot! :o

Just catching up properly and admiring your eldest's decision, Sue. My DD2 did something similar; took a foundation course at the local college after A levels. She/we received naff all in the way of assistance with that, not even EMA, but it was actually a very valuable year for her. Will your young man be in the same position, I wonder? :(

Doozer, if those are the only things wrong with it, then they're treatable, or at least work-round-able. You can get a cheap USB keyboard for £10 or less, and you can get new laptop batteries from ebay for a few tens of quid depending on whether you want extra long life or not.

My laptop (this one I'm typing on now) has had a new battery and is now fine on that score, and although its keyboard isn't too bad, I make a point of mainly using it with a separate keyboard to save any further wear on the actual laptop keyboard so it's still usable when I really want it. It's trackpad is irritatingly temperamental, so I generally use a USB mouse. The joy of the USB mouse and keyboard is that if they wear out (eg because of kids playing games overenthusiastically) you can replace them dead cheaply.
