Read an interesting book recently about how time slows up as you get older- an earlier post mentioned that Generali had dealt with the topic of why Americans rarely own electrical kettles two months ago and it was actually much longer

The book described the various factors that make time seem to speed up and intrigingly also described ways to slow it down. Moving abroad and settling in a new country is exactly one of those things (learning a language or going off to study somewhere wouold be others).

An unexpected bonus there for you there Generali. I'm envious, as I just seem to blink and a year goes by!

Heavens I do belivee I've just quoted myself. No good can come of it.

Made me realise that people that keep moving round and trying new things are actually living longer lives ( subjectively that is) than the rest of us.

Hi well read nice people. There's a book that I've seen and fancy reading and I wondered if any of you had come across it before, it's called 'The Sleeper Awakes' and its by HG Wells. I like Wells's work and the premise sounds fascinating. I think I'm going through a bit of a dystopian stage at the moment and this looks like it will fit right in.

It's public domain. So you could read it on kindle / ipad /computer etc http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/12163 free.

All H G Wells work is worth reading.

    Sounds like the film "Inception".

Mine is utterly reliable, in that it will always wake me by 8am, but it's not always a pleasant awakening. It has no snooze button, and doesn't handle time changes well or allow for a lie-in on Sundays. It certainly doesn't make tea, but it does make a mess.

It changes when they get older, I used to be able to rely on middle son being awake at 5am in the morning...now I need two alarm clocks!

N.B. Two in case one fails, I like to be prepared and make sure :D
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I have no idea why people replace kitchens and bathrooms regularly - a lot of expense, and endless hassle.

Mine has not been replaced since 1998....and that one was second hand anyway, bought for £50 from the local paper.

I have only ever had one new kitchen, in 1989, and that was left over cabinets from a kitchen fitting (over ordered), cost us a tenner and that was for fitting the darn thing, when we left the flat (rented), the landlord gave us £200 for the kitchen units.

I've never had a new kitchen, only one person in my family has ever had a new kitchen to my knowledge and that was 30 years ago and I think they still have it. The kitchen here was new in about 1976 (judging by the tiles)... and it's only 3 base units/worktop and 3 base units/double drainer sink... so not big.

The guys have all gone - although only next door. My electricity meter is running backwards. :)

Yes, yes, I know the electricity company will fit a different kind of meter soon that doesn't do that, and I'm not planning to conceal it and defraud them, etc. It's just nice to see it doing it. Am now going to put the washing machine on and see what happens.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I hope they [STRIKE]didn't[/STRIKE] read the meter before it started running backwards!
