Like stew and soup and chilli and other wet sort of things with taste mixtures? Make sense curry would fit into that. I love curries, but cook more veg ones than meat ones, and they are lovely the first day, and the second day but after that the veg goes beyond ''flavour infused'' to broken down, and then are not so nice.

A testament to how miserable the summer has been, I didn't make my favourtie summer curry once this year. :(

I eat more beastie-based than veg curries and find the flavours infuse the meat when they're left overnight so the taste is more intense somehow.

Mind you for beating a cold, I reckon the curry has to be taken just before turning in for the night.

i know statistically you are right, and we've discussed this several times here I think, so I'll just say ''Arancini'' and rest my case for reheated rice. Somethings are worth dying for. :)

My house is full of guys doing things for my solar panels.

There are two on the roof, who've fitted brackets and are measuring up the rails to put on the brackets. The panels that will go on the rails are sitting in a pile outside my front door.

There are two sparkies fitting new boxes of electronics in the meter cupboard and drilling holes & fitting trunking to run cables from the loft down to the meter cupboard.

There is a project manager and two others (I think they're learning to be project managers, having previously just been ordinary tradesmen, but I'm not absolutely sure) in the loft, installing the isolators and inverters.

All seven of them are friendly, respectful, professional and generally seem great at what they do (as far as I can tell so far). I've explained that I'm a physics teacher and want to take lots of photos to use to teach kids about renewable energy, and they've all been fine about me doing that. It's a pity the weather's wet & windy because the outside shots won't be as good, but never mind. It's interesting to go up on the scaffolding and see my roof from above, anyway.

It's such a contrast from the removals company I had (great salesman inspired confidence, but actual removers didn't live up to the promise). These guys seem to be as good as their salesman. :) (Let's just hope I don't have to come back on here this evening to retract that!)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I can't get a home help in, place is too grotty for that really :) Need to get it up to speed first.... more decluttering/tip runs.

PoA said the old's competent to sign... even though the old couldn't remember my birthday when asked :)

Got a shortlist of homes and phoned them for prices. But then had a letter re probate and it'll be next March at the earliest before everything's settled, so that puts putting the house on the market off until Xmas/New Year really (a popular time in these parts as people look then, in order to move and be settled by Easter). I had no idea it'd take so long! I'd have guesstimated 4-6 weeks.

If you explain to a cleaner what the situation is you can get help with the tidy bits and increase their working area the further through the house you get. Just having someone to clean the loo and kitchen would help you. Perhaps they could do the ironing to pad out the time until you can free up some more space for them to clean in.

Cleaners are paid to clean. They don't mind dirt and mess. I used to be a cleaner in the dim and distant so I should know. Where there's muck there's brass!

If you think you might have depression then please go and talk to your GP. Modern SSRIs are excellent compared to older forms of treatment, if rather less fun than amphetamines. Talking treatments can be very effective although your specialness might have an impact on the usefulness of them. If you think you might be suffering from depression then it can be a good idea to avoid alcohol, especially large amounts. Smoking doesn't help in some cases AIUI but I wouldn't recommend giving up while grieving. I ended up in hospital with a panic attack after I gave up smoking 2 weeks after my dad died. The doctor told me to go and buy a packet of fags. I smoked for a few months under medical advice!

A symptom of mental illness can be a reluctance to seek treatment. Remember that nobody will force you to start or to continue a treatment. Depression and related illnesses like anxiety and stress can be terribly debilitating. Winston Churchill suffered terribly with depression for all of his adult life.

I'm going to take a break from posting here after today. I have a plan to 'retire' in about 5-6 years and I need to focus on professional life for a while.

    Be good kids!!!

Aww Gen. Don't disappear entirely! Drop in every once in a while just so we know you're OK (and can enjoy your posts, which I find consistently worth reading).

That's very kind of you to say.

We'll see. It's time for me to stop coasting in life again. I've had my feet up for almost 3 years and now I need to get my poo together. Posting on here takes a lot of my time and more importantly a lot of 'head space' that I need to use more profitably for a while.

So are you going to go cold turkey or try and wean yourself off gradually? Are you going to make your fortune as an employee or are you thinking bigger. It must be nice to be in a trade where there is the opportunity to make enough money for the rest of one's life in a handful of years.
    I think....

    Cold turkey.

The plan is to make a bunch of money as an employee and then 'retire' into a completely different industry working for myself. Unfortunately I'm not a trader so I can't genuinely set myself up for life however if I ramp things up a bit we should be able to live off my income and save all of Mrs G's income once she starts working. In 5-6 years we'd have about $500,000, conservatively. That's enough to move to where we want to be, buy a decent house for cash and give me substantial capital to start a business.

Have a good life, then. Generali. All sounds quite a good idea.
