I dunno. our £5 argos kettle is still going strong after 2.5 years. we bought it when we moved in until we did the kitchen up. But it still works so I won't replace it...:rotfl:

IMHO cheap kettles are very noisy.

My requirements in kettles are quiet, 360 degrees (safety for left handed clumsy one), limescale filter & quick.

Believe it or not, many people now deep fry the thanksgiving beast...in an oil can in the garden after soaking it in brine.

I'd worry about whether it was cooked through to the centre!

Probe themomtreson lifting the beast out? They are pretty careful, American cooks, about things like that. Considering they are lighting a vat of oil on fire in their backyards after soaking a bird in slaty water for a perios of bacteria breeding time I suppose its risk management to avoid a tummy upset.

I do keep meaning to experiement with brining, but never get round to it.

I once learnt that in the US (post-war) food poisoning was rarer than in the UK as they got used earlier than the UK to home refrigeration, managing food supplies and driving to stock up at longer intervals.

On the other hand they apparently had a higher rate of botulism which is thankfully rare here (despite the botox industry!) but is more dangerous.

My dad and DH have overruled the repair man idea....I have to take Bosch to the tip. :( They pointed out that he hasn't been wahsig very reliably in recent months/years and so it doesn't really make that much sense. :( DH wan'ts it out today so the new one can copme in while he is not here next week. I feel very bad about this. I think people sometimes collect them from the tip to fefurbish though...don't they?

If your tip is anything like ours lir, it won't be a tip it will be a "recycling centre". All white goods are put together (as are all computers, all TVs). They don't go in the metal recycling. AIUI someone comes and takes them as a job lot and does with them what they will. When I got rid of my washing machine, I phoned someone who sold them secondhand, explained what was wrong and they picked it up free of charge as they felt it could be refurbished and sold on. It does help living in a town a mile or so away from them, not sure how far they would travel for it to be worthwhile.

If its taking up room then there's nothing for it. Shame there isn't a central website for repairers/secondhand dealers to be contacted on to collect such things, as in this state of the economy there must be a growing market for refurbished goods.

Actually there probably is, I just don't know about it. Anybody know anything about that?

Good idea, if not, maybe Pastures can set one up. Then become very rich off the back of it (ever hopeful).

I saw this girl make her proper singing debut last night in the pub, I think the guy who normally sings dragged her in off the street (busking), he said she had only picked up a guitar fairly recently, two of the songs she had performed were her own, a future star in the making, I think. I thought she was about 20 but looking at her web page she is only 15, she has a great voice, see what you think. Anyway good luck Millie.
