lights up slowly over a half hour (dh has one of these in Town, but thats pretty much all it does)
    is a digital radio
    has a sleep timer function
DH want's it to have an iPd dock...is that how that's called?

and......is a tea or coffee maker.

    Don't want much do you?

I suspect the last two will be generationally incompatible. (Other than whoever draws the short straw is kicked out of bed to make the tea when the alarm goes off.)

For an ipod dock you need to carefully check which ipod each dock is compatible with. This does mean that changing your ipod can mean you need to change your alarm.

Even if that is not the right one for you, the website shows each product with a list (under "Tech specs") of each compatible ipod.

Trying to find a new home for an old is a minefield ..... and something that needed to be tackled 5 years before it was needed. Options so far are:
1] Buy somewhere ..... without any idea how long before you can't live there any more. Takes 2-3 months to buy. Big buy/sell costs if it's for the short term.
2] Rent somewhere 20 miles away, 1 available, £2,500/month. Too many services provided - it's really a place for posh people
3] Go on the waiting lists for sheltered - looking like a 2 year wait

So ... bit of a problem as the old can't live in/look after this place (and wants to sell it).... but you can't simply find an affordable self-contained place with extra services available to buy.

No idea where you are, but wonder if there are some you don't know about? I doubt it, as you rule the Google. :)

Hope it is not too eek for you.....I don't 'do' hugs so here is a friendly pat on the back (would say bottom but that may be a bit cheeky! :rotfl:)

You can be cheeky all you like Sue!;)

In comparison with many, I suspect I am winding myself up a lot over stuff that isn't as important as is occurring to other NP. Just quite frustrated at the mo! I must get round to posting at the other place, but really busy at the mo!:)

Been there, looked at that. Trying to keep the old in the current town, rather than putting them somewhere they don't know at all.

It's not a care home we need. It's their own little place, with facilities/communal stuff/activities on site and a manager and care button etc... with the option of getting other services in as required.

Hi Pastures, do you need to stay in the area? Bearing in mind that there were three of you living in the house, you don't have to live there, one sadly is no longer there and the other doesn't want to stay there, are you really tied to that location? You may have far more options if you can think further afield.

    Sounds like sheltered housing.

What happens to elderly people in hospital who are ready to go home but need sheltered housing? I've heard of bed blocking, but I can't believe they stay in hospital for 2 years before a place is found.

Is there an organisation (social services/ GP services) that can help you through the maze?

What happens to the elderly who have no-one to find these things for them?
