I never take my wedding ring off - but then it doesn't have any bits that could get damaged and the odd scratch makes it look weathered...
When I went on holiday I took my pile of credit/debit cards for security, the pile was about 50 cards high (mine and DW's to be fair) so I am never short of a suitable card for on-line purchases. More often when I am out I find I haven't got the current 'right' card as it is left next to the PC. Having said that I am currently in urgent need of a new card as all my 0% purchase slow stooze cards are maxed out buying house bits.
I looked on the DIY board re water softeners - I didn't realise there was such a thing as a water softener anorak until today.
you can be our resident nice person expert for water softeners then. :rotfl:
Right, I'm leaving work (:o had to come in to do some readings) and having a big drink before searching for rings. and they are never coming off ever again. never. ever. again.
thanks lir (if i could hug you right now, it would be the best thing ever)0 -

I adore my wedding ring, and I'm hoping to have more made by the same jeweller, but it is a silly ring for someone who has animals and mucky jobs and gardening as hobbies...it has a raised diamond on it, which while simple does mean it needs cleaning. I sometimes wear it under gloves, more often just leave it in the house. I also wear an opal ring....VERY silly for day to day use. Its better I leave them inside. (I love opals very, very much. My ring isn't the nicest sort of opal, but I still love it a lot, I also have a very old opal ring, but the opal is so damaged it looks like a peace of white limestone...opals make better earings than finger rings!)0 -
Have just had a look at water softeners... wow, £500 just to soften the water... didn't really explain why people need them.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Soft water also doesn't ever scale up your kettle.
No idea why somebody'd use a water softener though generally - I've never seen one/known anybody to have one.0 -
water softener at my parents house is a waste of money. Noisy and not really effective at all. My hair is the odd hair that prefers harder water. You do use more detergents/shampoos etc though. where ever I live I need conditioner though. I do shampoo much less often than most people now though.0

oh...and just an example of how wqiuickly things with my body change....yesterday pretty much unable to walk because of feet, today, no pain in them whatsoever (though I do seem to have broken a toe again!).
DH and I are ''on holiday'' today. Which basically seems to mean doing the same stuff slower. And he's enjoying clash of the titans on tv.0 -
Pluses of water softener - you use less detergent/ shampoos etc, water tastes drinkable, your boilers/ central heating systems/ kettles don't get scaled up.
I would love one but we've been advised that we could have pin pr1ck holes throughout our central heating system that would be exposed (ie leak) if we softened the water.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My engagement ring had claws to hold the stone in place, I had the stone reset with a "rubbed over" setting. I'm so superstitious that I insisted the ring be kept the same. The jeweller said it would have been far easier to start again just retaining the stone.
The claws used to catch on everything, the new setting is much easier to keep clean.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Don't think so. Nothing much of the busy lizzies left and the lobelia is doing fine so shame to lose it.
Also the beds are 2 inches wide by 10 foot long, so not ideal to set fire to.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
