My engagement ring had claws to hold the stone in place, I had the stone reset with a "rubbed over" setting. I'm so superstitious that I insisted the ring be kept the same. The jeweller said it would have been far easier to start again just retaining the stone.
The claws used to catch on everything, the new setting is much easier to keep clean.
Oh, mine has claws (and they catch everything) which is why i take them off so much (but never again!!)
might go and see if it would be worth changing it to a different setting. then again, the ring is vintage bought from an auction on a whim so i love it.

Kids tend to be prone to dry itchy skin which could go eczema if they scratch it too much - we were in Devon with soft water and didn't have to cover them in skin cream after each bath (although had too get used to not using so much soap to avoid spending an extra 15 minutes in the shower trying to get properly rinsed) and as soon as we got back they itched again. In the past doctor has suggested water softener and as we are having all the work done it seemed worthwhile. You can pay 1k rather than 500 and also have to add salt each week.
It may not help with the kettle as you are not supposed to drink the softened water due to excess sodium ions.
You could tape over the rings when doing chores.
I never have any cash so would starve without plastic for even a couple of days.I think....0 -

Mrs McT has on several occasions rummaged through the bin thinking whatever she tidied away must have ended up in there.
So far, thankfully, everything has eventually been found in other, even less likely, locations.
Her work blackberry for example has been found at various times in the fridge, the medicine cabinet, behind the bed, under the seat of her car, in the laundry basket, etc. Although her previous phone survived a spin cycle in the washing machine, only to die an inglorious death falling into a large cocktail a week later. The phone before that was left in a taxi, and the one before that was left on the roof of her car before driving off. We think it survived the fall, we know it didn't survive being run over as she reversed back into the space realising what she'd done.
Her expensive watch and rings have been left in a hotel 400 miles from home (and recovered, thanks to honest staff), and found in such "safe places" as behind a cereal box in the kitchen cupboard, in my sock drawer, etc, several weeks after being tidied lost.
Her cheap and hideously ugly £10 sports watch on the other hand has never once been lost or misplaced, in over a decade of trying....OH trying not to laugh.
Good for him. I can never resist the urge.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I think I've posted before about my wedding ring getting caught in the cement mixer and nearly breaking my arm. Since then, I've been happy to stay bereft of personal adornment.
DW had a cheap, 'practical' ring when we were married, but by our 25th anniversary it was looking decidedly naff. I think she had it melted down and the diamonds re-used to surround another much larger one. There was probably a good bit of jiggery-pokery.
At the time, I just said, "Yes, dear."Now I'm insuring it every year, I know what it cost.

I have digger envy. I really really want one after having to landscape using a mattock and a spade. I just keep thinking how nice it would be to have a digger.
Potatoes for the year dug up. Impressed with the Sarpo's. They survived this long
Got some greenhouse tomatoes and another couple of gherkins to pickle tonight.
Got rosehips and elderberries to make syrup from and all sorts to do. autumn is seriously busy.
and blackberries, must pick blackberries. just figured out how to make fruit leather.0 -
To be honest, with minidiggers, we just rent when we need them. They are only £55 or so a day. Compared to £5k and it sitting round 90% of the time decaying.
But a mixer would really be useful... because with concrete, we tend to not use much in one go, and have to wait for it to set, it never really makes sense to hire them and we end up doing it by hand.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I really hope so.
I live in an area with naturally soft waterbut that doesn't stop the supermarket stocking Viakal & Calgon.)
