People who own BP shares may want to sell 'em, because there are strong rumors that a certain gulf oil well is leaking again.

What amazing children Lydia......and Happy Birthday too!

I got chilly last night too, didn't put the heating on though (never before October!), just put an extra quilt and a fleece blanket on the bed and stayed there. We then went on to having our discussions on my bed, with youngest reading out all his latest reviews on tablet pc's, middle son telling me of the plans for their band and eldest moaning about needing a decent camcorder to record the short film he is doing for Film Studies....oh and a decent laptop too (apparently I am the magic mum and can magic these things up from nowhere)

So a very noisey bedroom but we were all as snug as a bug.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

So, there I was, 20 minutes ago suggesting lunch and the old said what they want "jacket spud".... so off I go, wash one, stick it in the microwave. Old is preparing the side salad to go with that. I went off to do other things, microwave pinged, so I took the spud out, cut it in half, and realised the old's plate had gone.... took the spud through to them and it went like this: "I've had my lunch", "This is your lunch", "I've had salad and half a crumpet; I thought the spud was for you", "I've done this spud because that's what we agreed you were having", "I'll re-heat it for tea".... I removed spud and went to do the washing up ....

We'd had the discussion that I was having a bit of bread (heated up) ... no spud. Spud was the old's choice...

Lydia: Happy birthday!! Amazing children from an obviously amazing mother too.

PN: can you get some one to help you look after old for a bit because she sounds like she needs full time care for now and you have plenty to be doing with.

And talking about wills, we really must be going on and doing ours...

No I can't. We started an assessment of her needs just as all the other stuff kicked off, so that was assessed and a preliminary figure given, but then the other stuff happened, so now there's been a significant change of circumstances so the figures need doing again ... and I didn't do that lot as I wasn't here ... and I don't know how you get people/where from as I don't know the system.... and I could find out, but I am doing 101 things already and it'd just end up as taking weeks to get an answer anyway.

Nearly got the old into the daycare, was about to make the phone call to pop in for a coffee/look around when the call came to say I had to go to be with the dying old, then the dying old died ... and now we're in funeral arrangement mode.

I have no such complication and prefer exeutrix. It trips off the tongue better, rather like dominatrix.

NOTHING your wonderful kids did surprises me.....Nice People I did tell you all they were amazing little rays of sunshine.

Got my number, and some new chickens. Couldn't stick at one breed, we have six new chooks, of five different breeds. From these we'll choose a couple to get more of. Also, a friend of mine is going to start breeding a VERY rare breed of bird and I'm going to have half a dozen of them next year or year after. These birds travelled amazingly, and the breeder is the first I've seen to mix large fowl and bantams.......we might be getting some bantams in the future now......though I thnk they are more tempting for predators and barn cats, being so weeny.

Where did you hear this, and you believe the rumours?

Edit: Too late, I've sold em.

I am sorry to hear that you are proposing to sell the family home to pay care home fees. That may not be necessary, and this is certainly not the time to be making this decision.

If you have the time, look at this linky:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSomeone/CareHomes/DG_10031523
    For example, it says:
... your home won't be counted as capital [to pay care home costs] if any of the following people still live there:
    • your husband, wife, civil partner or someone you live with as a partner
    • a close relative who is 60 or over, or incapacitated
    • one of your children (including adopted children) who is under 18
    • your ex-husband, ex-wife, ex-civil partner or ex-partner if they are a single parent
Your local council may choose not to count your home as capital if your carer lives there.

I am not sure whether you fall into any of those categories?

In any case, you cannot sell until you have probate, and if your mother only has a 50% share in the house, there's the other 50% that is held in the will trust. Also, the way the will is worded, are you sure that the house was not 100% in dad's name?

Finally, and I do not suggest this lightly, considering that you have been living with your parents caring for them, it could possibly be argued that the will does not provide sufficiently for you. In that case, there are laws to enable you to challenge that.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

That's a good point. Pastures, I know it has driven you nuts living in that house with both olds because even before the ill one got ill, you felt you didn't have any space and weren't allowed any autonomy. But if you could have it to yourself, would it suit your needs? Has it got the parking, space for hammering, etc that you want, or is it totally unsuitable?

ETA GDB, I'm reasonbly sure Pastures isn't over 60, or incapacitated, or under 18.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

To put this in perspective, the person who wrote this blog item was the lead counsel who won a $1 billion verdict against ExxonMobile, so I find it creditable personally... but I am no expert in this. There have also, today, been reports in associated press that BP is investigating two abandoned oil fields for oil sheen, which is unconfirmed and may be unrelated.
