Recently discovered that a song I'd planned to include in my funeral has a four letter word in it.....:(:(

Better he lose his way a bit now, rather than later. A bit trendy to say this ATM, but most of us need practical experience of consequences. ;)

We've always let the kids have consequences from as soon as they could control their movements.

It's led to some sticky moments. For example Generalissima aged about 9 months decided to do some buggy surfing in Orpington and fell out on her head. A 50-60 y/o woman asked me if I was an idiot to which I could only reply, 'Yeah, probably'.

On funeral music, we had the most perfectly timed inappropriate music ever.
Just as they started lowering my wifes nan in to the ground an ice cream van started playing Colonel Bogey (other swill know it as "Hittler has only got one....")

    A. I had never heard an ice cream van play that before
    B. as icream vans go perhaps it was not that bad a choice for someone who had lived through the second world war.

Thank god the Vicar said that he could not helped think the deceased would have laughed as that then enabled people to react.

It was one of those moments that was funny, but at a very inappropriate time.

Doesn't come close to the most inappropriate music ever. At my mum's crem, they had a CD system for playing music. One day, the bloke who was running the place set up the CD directly to the channel the deceased's family had written down. Only the guy who wrote the track number transposed in reverse.

Instead of getting their choice of music, the deceased descended into the pit to the hallowed song of "Ding dong the witch is dead,"

Sorry to butt in, I sometime lurk on here- hope you don't mind :o

My grandfather, a devout catholic, had a bet with his priest that he would not play his chosen song at his funeral. The priest, not wishing to lose, decided he would rather not know what the song was and played it "blind".

I have never laughed so much at a funeral- his song of choice? Madonna, just like a prayer.

Thoughts are with you PN, once you are through this difficult time between "the event" and "the send off" things will improve, promise.

When my Generalissima was being baptised I just kinda mentioned to the vicar* that Jerusalem would be a nice thing to sing on the day what with England having won the 6 Nations match against the previous season's champions Wales in pretty decisive fashion a couple of weeks earlier (Eng 47 - Wal 13) and how my daughter was going to be raised in the Church of England and so on.

In the end we sang Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer, more commonly known as Bread of Heaven. I can't imagine many vicars are called a 'bloody bzgger' when he hands the baby back to the parents at the font.

Good. And after they are done talking to the funeral place, give them a list of phone numbers to call.

I think they really should be involved, it's a good way of coming to terms with end of it all.

Absolutely agree. With mother in law, my wife is doing everything. But she still has her brother on the phone wanting to discuss it all and give instructions/advice. He lives quite far away, so it's understandable, but a bit of practical help would be so much more use.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

My youngest did alright in his !!!. Actually he did well, but he has so many super brainy friends and so many not so brainy but at super schools that his results don't shine - he feels.

silvercar: as long as he gets the grades to go into uni, that's the last time he needs to think about them as later it's only the degree results that count ;)

Now the rest of his friends - either at normal-ish schools or not super bright are getting their results - and he's feeling better.

You added an extra s, so the forum thinks it's a donkey. I'm pretty sure the forum software will allow you to call someone a donkey, but apparently not an a$$.

    Edit: Fooled it!!
