He said "If you can't enjoy research even when the experiment doesn't work, then you shouldn't be doing a research job, because it doesn't work most of the time." That's why I'm now teaching.
(Not that I'm trying to say that you shouldn't be doing research, or that you shouldn't be sharing your experimental woes with the NP, just that I understand that an experiment not working is "one of those things". My PhD experiment didn't work for one reason or another until half way through my fourth year. You have all my sympathy, and my admiration, too, for succeeding in a job I couldn't hack.)
Well, I can't teach small children week in, week out so I'm very grateful that there are teachers who do.
I do love science, I don't love it ALL the time but the intense satisfaction of solving a problem will never be lost on me.That sounds fascinating. What language is that in? I want to put through Google translate.I can teach you molecular biology if you want? We can trade for you teaching me about economics?
Picked 2lbs of green beans, the first tomatoes (the black cherry ones :T) and a cucumber. Some chillies and plums too. I'm quite impressed seeing the fact that I have neglected the garden for most of this season.
Must remember to give plums away this year, we have enough jam/chutneys to last our lifetimes. No blackberries yet, but I keep an eye on them, there's a massive hedge right outside my house.
what can i do with ickle beetroot? can we eat them whole?0 -
Lemonjelly - thanks
You sure know how to make a girl blush! (damn, now we can't have a guess whether Nikkster is male or female debate). I definitely spend a fair proportion of my time feeling neither intelligent nor friendly!
lemonjelly wrote: »Nikkster, you're obviously an intelligent friendly person. We spoke frequently at census time, and you showed yourself to be highly eloquent too. You'd be made more than welcome here, as I'm sure would so many other lurkers.:)
You may officially class yourself as a nice person.
LIR makes excellent points above.
LIR I hope your mouth is better soon.:A0 -
I think its probably 2/3 shyness (I am like this before I get to know people better in real life too), and the rest of it is generally not having anything of interest to say/ using the thread/ board as to refine my timewastingexpert skills when I'm not at work - and sometimes when I'm there too! Its strange. I do sometimes feel like I'm prying as I'm not contributing, but its also easier to be lazy I suppose. I'll try to not hide so much
I don't reply often even though I read it quite a lot.

seriously nikkster, none of what I [STRIKE]contribute[/STRIKE] force on the thread is stuff worth reading..as you have read! Its theraputic though, for me! Sometimes really good stuff gets said here, the rest of the time we are a bit like tabloid readers at a bar. But sillier. And more comfortable.
Raw beetroot is yummy: we have none, I'm very jealous!. How little, too little to have as intensley sweet but roasted?0 -

I always thought you were one of us Nikkster, only less verbose (well than me anyway)...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I am 99% sure that Silvercar has gone on hols....mentioned it about a week back.
Now I am  at what PN ate today. I would get really blocked up if I ate that in a day.
Fascinating to read what people in eat in a day though.........maybe to intro Nikkster into posting we could do a 'what I ate today' post.
I've never done this before.:)
Today I ate;
Bowl raw oats with apple juice, linseeds, crushed seeds and an apple.
Feta cheese salad (olives/toms/parsley/cucumber) and homemade couscous with roasted veg, garlic bread (nasty processed asda one I confess), some plain walkers crisps, mixed green leaves and olive oil.
Masses of caffeine in 2 teas and 3 coffees.
2 glasses red wine (a nice £6 beaujolais)
Some fridays it's fish and chips but not tonight as tomo is finish cataloguing range @ 8am, load up van with masses of stuff for trade show, drive to Earls court, set up stand (lots of lugging and tramping) and late back tomo pm so will have the F+C tomo pm I think (with a giant slad of course).PasturesNew wrote: »Today's diet was:
Sausages, eggs, beans, toast, coffee, jam (that's fruit, right!)
2 pastries (you get those with morning/afternoon coffee)
3 chocolate giant cookies (purchased Tuesday night)
Pie/chips.
.....Lots of people who follow this thread don't have much to contribute...doesn't stop us from posting tho! :rotfl:

I read sometimes and don't post as my fingers are too tired to type sometimes. The downside of having a job that requires dextrous skills.0
