Someone recommended using Task Killers? I'd advise against them. The android operating system is very capable of managing it's processing resources by itself. More info/opinions here... http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

Hell it is - I had to use it on the HTC wildfire - it depends on what you do and what phone you have.

Done all thats advised and still didn't work.

I started using task killer as my battery life was awful. I couldn't make it through a day at work before my phone died!!!

What do i try next as sync clearly isn't working and on the HTC site it just tells me to unplug the usb then put it in again and proceeds to give instruction on how to back up (so obviously that works for everyone apart from me lol)
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

When you connect the phone, is HTC sync running on the pc?
I mean you do not connect the phone first and then start htc sync?

I had another problem with htc sync, other people on techie board disagreed (must be just my pc) but I once found that conflict with iTunes caused htc sync to not work. This is a long shot but do you have itunes installed?

If you cannot get it working, try another pc if you have access to one.

Otherwise try the app I suggeted earlier MyBackup which is free for 30 days apparently. Never used it myself - worth checking if it will do restores as well backups without having to pay for it.

    You mentioned email/bookmarks/passwords.

Bookmarks you can backup with apps like MyBackup. Emails are generally stored on the server (gmail etc - depends on how you set up your email on the phone) and not sure about passwords but most likely you will end up re-entering them if you do a reset.

Tried it both ways round. sync open then plug in, since closed, plug in and then open.

    Restarted phone and laptop

    Changed USB cables

I do have itunes, and no other laptop to try it on i'm afraid.

May have to get the other back up thing, will take a look now.

Try clearing the cache and all cookies from your pc.

Have you actually downloaded the latest sync from the HTC website?

Plug in the HTC and reboot PC. Hopefully it may recognise it as a new device and load the drivers accordingly.

I had exactly the same problem with my step daughters HTC Desire at first.

    Do that with ccleaner

    Yep, uninstalled and reinstalled

    Nope, afraid not

    Thanks though :D

Try MyPhoneExplorer for backing up messages, contacts etc. It's free and you can connect over Wifi or through a USB cable. You have to download the app to the phone and the software to your pc. I've used it a few times when my Desire HD has deleted all my texts (known bug - happened 4 times now! grr) and it's great to be able to put all my texts back on the phone.

    Hi,

The crashing is a known fault with the original Desire. They corrected the issue in later models. Mine only started crashing after months of being fine.

Your only option is to send it back to HTC to repair. I tried everything myself and it did not help.

I believe it's an overheating issue and the motherboard gets replaced. As this is a known manufacturing defect they will have to honour the warranty even though it's 13 months old.

Edit: There is a thread somewhere on Vodafone forum of lots of people having same issue a year ago. HTC where very quick at collecting phone and bringing back. You do need to do your back up 1st though as phone gets wiped and updated.

Htc phones come with 24 months warranty as standard.
So no problem getting a warranty repair, whether it's a known
    fault or not..
