HTC Desire constantly crashing

I have a 13 month old HTC desire. Before christmas it started crashing when the battery was low so got a new one but didn't make a difference.
It only really did it when I was playing games (only bubbles) so not a massive issue but it has now crashed 5/6 times over the last 2 days and when i'm on the internet or using the timer which are pretty essential to me.
It constantly starts up then crashes again until i get lucky and it stays on. HTC sync on my computer will not notice my phone is there so cannot back up my stuff.
Obviously i'm thinking a total restore but want somebody to say this will work before wiping my phone as I have a lot of stuff on their and will take some time to set it all back up.

I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

You will have to try the reset to see if it works or not.
Most likely there is shortage of memory with applications running in background which cause the game to crash.
You could try to stop un-necessary programs from starting up with Task Killer (I used it for HTC Wildfire).
When resetting, there is one setting (at least on the wildfire) where your data will not get wiped off the phone.
But best to backup everything you need onto the pc before resetting phone.0 -
I can't back up as the sync wont work and already have and use task killer.
Avaliable space is 2.59GB and used 3.66GB. Not sure how bad/good that is?I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
The space on the memory card is not the problem - its the phone memory that is likely to be the issue.
If sync is not working, you need to work out why it is not working. What happens when you connect phone to pc, are you selectiing HTC Sync as default connection type on the phone?0 -
After setting the phone to sync it tries to locate my computer and then tells me it's unable to find it while the program on the computer states no devices are connected.I get what i want. That can happen with HTC Sync unfortunately.
Try using a different usb cable (if you have one).
Try checking you have latest version of htc sync, download again from htc.com. Update if it is not latest version.
If still fails, then try removing HTC Sync (presumably you have never used it to do any backups before) - removing it could potentially remove previous backups on the pc. If you have never used it, then uninstall it completely, remove the folders c: program folders for HTC after installing.
And if it still fails, might want to try it on a different pc altogether if you have one.0 -
Shall have a go and let you knowI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

Have you tried connecting to the PC using the 'mass storage' option instead of sync? It should allow you access to at least back up your files. You might want to try removing your memory card before you plug it in too. Are you sure you have essential files that you need to save actually on the phone? They could all be on the removable memory card.0

I've taken my pictures off and stored my contacts to memory card, but was looking for a way of not wiping my phone as i have a million bookmarks with saved usernames and passwords, email account etc as I use the phone for work and to set it all up from scratch again would take some time.
I would also like to avoid losing my messages.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
During both install and uninstall it tells me to close 'abd'
Then tells me install/uninstall was unsuccessful
Ignore, found it in task manager and ended programI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
I would try to get htc sync working first.
But have a look for MyBackup - there is apparently 30 day trial version you could use
