i think the qualification for the free travel insurance is you putting £1,000 into your account each month, doesn't matter where it comes from, but can't be transfer money from one account that goes in and out each month (if you see what i mean) the travel insurance then kicks in, so just check with your branch! they put this in place when they got rid of free transactions worldwide (which i would prefer to have).

Hmm ... so my banking checks yesterday weren't as accurate as first thought ... various transactions on my card had been forgotten about, and because of the bank holiday they haven't shown up on my statement until this morning, so actually the figures I had yesterday were pretty wrong :(:(

Having rejigged it all again it now means that I don't have the £100 to start off the holiday fund, and it also means I needed to take £20 from Septembers budget to get everything square, but hey, we got there in the end, so holiday fund is at zero, but ds is goin to his dads tomorrow for a couple of nights and my plan is to get stuck into ebay or betting and make a bit to start me off again :) I can't believe how excited I am at the thought of a holiday already :D

[QUOTEyou should get insurance pretty cheaply, look at an annual policy, they can be cheaper sometimes than a 2 week policy.... also if you bank with nationwide, you get european travel insurance free with a flex account.... you won't need £100 for insurance, seriously.....

The £100 is for ds passport too, mine is fine but his runs out in November, so thats £49 to renew it and £8 for the check and send bit at the Post Office

Right, off now to collect ds and visit an aunt for the afternoon, ww tonight then home to book the holiday :j :j

Sweetie, don't waste £8 doing check and send, get a friend to look at it for you - most important things:

    black ink
no smiling on the photos and looking straight ahead

Honestly, given that you have such a long time before you travel, even if you do inadvertently make a mistake, you have plenty of time to rectify it....

Very exciting to be planning a holiday - I hope to be doing the same soon :)

I agree dont bother with the £8 check, I renew my ds passport and it was fine, I just double checked everything carefully.

You can do the passport forms online and print them off to send, perfect if your prone to writing outside of the boxes as I am!

yes, passports are expensive aren't they, hope you can get a 10 year one, well at least a 5 year one which then gets renewed for free because of them growing up and needing a new passport photo

Total price = £926 for the holiday, insurance was £23 (but £10 to come back from quidco ;)), passport will be £49, so altogether = £998 :) May as well keep it at the £1k target then :)

I got my first £2 coin today too, so thats the pot started off nicely for spending money :D I am so ridiculously excited already, its daft :D
