It was the idea of arriving at school with a steamer trunk full of cake and sweets that swung it for me. I loved anything like that... especially anything totally unPC. Bring back Fatty and the Five Find Outers... makes my mouth water just thinking about the macroons and chocolate eclairs.
Yay for Fatty :T:T
I did read the Trebizon books but was vaguely disappointed that they resembled nothing like Mallory Towers :rotfl:I also loved the St Clares books too. Jolly hockeysticksAlthough truth be told I am a netball fanatic, hockey was never really my thing
DS has a special interest which is space. Unfortunately that means a lot of the books he likes to look at contain words slightly above his reading level :rotfl: Mind you he can write and name the entire 8 planets in the solar system. Thank goodness his interest is in something I actually loveI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

:eek:Annual electrickery statement arrived today. A predicted £1200 for the year. They've helpfully upped our direct debit to £100 a month to cover this. Am still in shock.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Ah, the planets of the solar system:
My Very Elderly Mother Just Sat Under Nicholas Parsons. One of those things that's stuck with me for years!
We major on dinosaur books, too - lots of long made up words in those, queue 10 year old DD "How do they know what there names were?".
They put our electricity and gas direct debit up twice in two months but we're on a fixed rate now, so hopefully that's it for a while. I keep including all the chargers for the kids' copious electric gadgetry, too...Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -

Dont take that lying down - they tried something similar with us - tried to up it to £120 a month - more than twice of what we where paying 'based on your past use'. OH has installed on PC a consumption calculator thingy which keeps him happy and I think was in fact supplied by electricity company themselves. OH told them a few FACTS and pointed out that even with the original payment they 'owed' us very month. They backed down without any explanation as to why they wanted to hike the price - other than they where trying it onBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

My electrickery company (or rather OHs as its all in his name) upped our bill from £30 to £131 per month. Despite the dd coming out of my account they refuse to discuss it with me because the bill isnt in my name. Trying to get OH to phone them is like trying to get blood from a stone. He keeps "forgetting". Well I told him next month, its phone them or else he doesnt get fed. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Ah. I have that problem too. The solution appears to write a letter telling them that "I" am muchly cheesed off and inviting them to discuss it with his nominated representative (moi) and then getting him to sign it. Seems a much faster solution and one which doesn't allow him to agree to anything over the phone because he would.... looks like we'll end up fixing with Eon but need to do it by the 29th before the offer expires which will net £15 cashback and drop the overall guestimate by £250 a year.
One of my cleaners is poorly sick. Sent her home on Monday, she ended up in A&E so won't be back in for quite some time. Have arranged a replacement on a trial basis by way of recommendation from someone else. Took a lot of persuading though, even warning the boss that shes so shy she comes across as gormless over the phone was not enough of a warning. Seems he had a hard time getting her to agree to come in when there are other people in the building. Mst try v. hard not to scare her off when she does appear. Shes bringing her mum for moral support tonight and because this gives her someone to hide behind whilst she settles in. Have been reassured that she'll be a diferent person once all the staff have gone and there are only a couple of people about. Could be interesting though.
Spent the evening attempting to knit in the round otherwise known as knitting for the sadistic since this appears to involve constantly stabbing myself with a multitude of very pointy double ended needles hell bent on drawing blood. I'm sure theres a knack to this but I haven't figured it out yet. Most frustratingly I'd done four circuits before realising that I should be knitting inside out even though the instructions say "with the right side facing.." they omit to say "each other" so I assumed (wrongly as it turns out) they meant facing me. Much blondeness. Will be pulling that back in daylight and having another go.
OH is continuing his efforts to be helpful. Came home to find he'd swept the kitchen floor leaving a ple of debris in the middle of the room for the hound to roll in. He then proceeded to load the washing machine with DDs brand new black PE kit and his white work shirts. Hes since discovered the error of his ways. HA to the washing disaster but it sounds like he is trying.
With the cleaner, might it be that she has some kind of learning difficulties/social disorder such as Aspergers? I have had a few people working for me with Aspergers and they were erm, difficult to get to know and understand at first. Once I had worked out how to approach them and what they were comfortable with and good at they were the best workers I have ever had. The trick is to find their comfort zone and make sure that you dont give them more than they can handle. Got roped into modeling vintage dresses in order to take piccies to accompany a friends e-bay listings. Been quite fun. She did suggest I kept a couple as a thank you but I declined. Can't see myself shopping in Mr Ts in a yellow fringed 1950s cruise dress or a sparkly cocktail dress.

Whyever not? Or you could just wear it at home paired with the Aggie-style gloves that all the supermarkets now seem to be selling
