Am getting too carried away with this knitting malarky.... really.... am now trying to decide whether to make a hot pink or deep plum hot water bottle cover for DD1s birthday. Wool seems to be breeding in the cupboard. Really enjoying it though. Especially last night whaen I came home to a log fire and annoyed the heck out of OH by slapping on Classic FM and knitting way past my bedtime. Most therapeutic.
Did make a point of doing lots of housey stuff earlier in the day so don't feel even vaguely guilty about it.
Stuck for ideas for things to do with DD2 this weeknd so figured we'd make a start on Christmas cakes because she loves baking. Not sure what to do after that though ... perhaps a trip to Abakhan.... emporium of all things crafty although to get there we have to traverse the car boot sale from hell and its endless tailbacks which makes it more of a Sunday afternoon outing. Might do that if its raining especially since discovering that I've been paid another lot of holiday money for the job I do only in the holidays and after checking with the head honcho it appears this is not a corporate !!!! up and so I have £30 (pre-tax) more than I expected to have.... it would be churlish to use it all to reduce the debts.... sensible yes........ but lifes boring if you're sensible all the time.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Ta very muchly! Will get back to you once I've aquired a needle sizer and figured out just what I do have.
Have been digging around in my craft stash for a piece of aida from which to make a knitting needle roll.... all in the name of organisation you understand. Figured it would be far easier than trying to machine paralell lines in fabric without a guide. Found the perfect piece in a bag labelled height chart which I never got round to starting and which is redundant since both DDs are taller than it was ever intended to be. Figured I could machine a hem and then fold a third of it over to make a pocket a smidgen shorter than the shortest needles with a flap the other end to stop the needles falling out when not in use. After that its simpy a case of dividing it into sections and attaching a ribbon to tie it shut when rolled. Sounds so easy when put like that. Bet its anything but.
Still can pootle about for 20 minutes figuring out the best way to do it since my halo is shiny, the bog is de-scummed and the gutters de-leafed.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Morning all!
Woke up to find I've shifted another book on Amazon. £8 out of the purchasers pocket, a third of this to Amazon in fees, slightly more than a third to the people of the Post Office and a rather pathetic £2.50 to me. Still its something else out of the house.
Did a little more tidying yesterday. Tis amazing how straight the place stays when they're all out for the majority f the day. Doesn't feel quite so much like I'm losing the battle.
DD1 managed to find the school dining room yesterday rahter than the hot snack counter. Once there she purchased bacon, eggs ,sausages and cake. Sheesh. At least she wasn't hungry when she got home. Which is just as well because one of the neighbours called round to see if we wanted any damsons. An executive descision was made and I came home to find the sink full of them and the washing up bowl and several buckets. DD1 clearly took him at his word when he said help yourself. Crumble for tea me thinks and much jam and chutney making over the weekend. At least it solves the problem of what to do with DD2.
The statement of doom has arrived. Debt has boomeranged back to just under 10K. Summer holidays are expensive things. Need to give myself a big kick up the bum because little splurges are occuring all too frequently. Today is not that day though because I have to purchase all the things I forgot over the holiday like school shirts for DD1 and black hairbands since she has been reminded at school that brightly coloured ones are not appropriate school attire. Bah.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Yesterday I shopped until I dropped and ended up with some very sensibly priced stuff as a result. Stuck v. rigidly to my list. Managed to find DD1s hockey stuff in the sale so paid £4 for shin pads instead of £20 and splurged a further £2 on a knuckle glove. Bought a 400g ball of wool for my next project but one (assuming the not-really-a-darlek wool shows up this weekend). Was only a pound more that buying two 100g balls of the same colour. Am sure I'll find a use for it. Found decent camera cases for the DDs new cameras at 99p each reduced from £15 resulting in v. happy daughters.
Biggest headache I had was school shirts. Now that the term has started they seem to have been cleared from the shelves. Found some two sizes bigger than required. She'll grow into them eventually. At least I won't need to buy any next year.
Spent £60 in Mr. T which included the ingredients for four christmas cakes and a double batch of chutney as well as a batch of shredless marmalade (using the innards of the fruit left over from x-mas cake making) and food for the next week. Ended up with a £12 off a £80 shop to be used in the next fortnight and a 5p off fuel voucher. Someone had helpfully left another one in the bottom of the trolley so I used both and knocked a fiver off my fuel bill. Still topped £50 but I won't need to fill up again until mid-way through October.
Have a sore throat and an itchy nose. A classic case of back-to-school-itis. It won't develop into anything. Happens at the start of every year when the little darlings share whatever new strains of lurgi they've managed to catch over the summer. Being so cold and wet doesn't help at all.
DD2s glasses seem to have curtailed her headaches although shes complaining about the amount of work shes been expected to do this week. They're testing ready for streaming into ability groups so shes being pushed to see quite what shes capable of so they can figure out what to do with her to stop her getting bored or driving the teachers mad by finishing too quickly and needing them to find more things for her to do. Problem is she was pushed last year so has already completed this years maths programme. Whilst she can go up a group this year it would cause problems in her final year because there wouldn't be another group to bump her up to. Trying to avoid pulling her out of class to stick her with the SENCO because she'd see that as a from of punishment. Shes far too sociable to spend her time in one to one teaching. Why are things with kids always so complicated?Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
