I spent yesterday ironing. Its done. All of it. Right down to the last modern equivalent of meltable nylon shirt which is really some highly specialised instant dry thingmijiggie. Laundry basket is now empty. So empty in fact that I washed it out. Obviously the DDs promptly tidied their bedrooms and filled it up again but at least I know there won't be any random wet and slightly mouldy smelling towels to be found lurking within for another few days.
Released my clicky finger very briefly yesterday and splurged on a huge job lot of knitting needles on E-bay from someone five minutes away for less than I'd pay for a pair in the shop. Planning to ppick them up today. If they don't contain a pair of size 8s I will scream. All knitting halted last night when this earth shattering discovery was made. Couldn't face stitching up mice. Will save that for daylight hours once OH has returned to the grindstone after his one and only day off this week.
Whilst confessing to splurges I also purchased a tenners worth of assorted labels for Country Marketing purposes but they should last me well into 2013. Still need to source baking bags and then I can start to cook. Need to find a much better plain scone recipe than Mrs Beaton's though because yesterdays attempt (and the reason I forgot to cook veggies to go with dinner) was more like bread rolls.
Didn't get round to e-bay listing. Attempted it but gave up after repeatedly being told "the page you are trying to access does not exist". Theres always next month and the month after that and the one after that too.
DD1 is packed and ready to depart for high school. May need to dehair her uniform this morning because the cats appear to have been sleeping on it for the past week. Think shes more excited than apprehensive but that won't stop her beig a complete nightmare this morning.
Further plans for the day involve the purchase of chicken feed and much hoovering and mopping and other assorted acts of drudgery. Still have to source various insurance products too but am delaying that until after the 7th to ensure they don't appear on this months credit card statement. That way I can delay payment until the very end of October.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

I can't believe I am writing this - the least domesticated being on this earth ... use buttermilk in the scones - way nicer than ordinary milk."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Sour milk in scones - tip courtesy of Pippilongstocking and my scones have been perfect ever since. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0

Thank y'all. DD1 survived her first day. Whether she enjoyed it remains to be seen. She was almost asleep when I arrived home and incapable of anything other than slowly niggbling toast and grunting. Hopefully I'll get more out of her in the morning. Seems she managed to feed herself although was given an earbending for purchasing a sausage roll, vending machine flapjack and fruit shoot for lunch and spending £3 in the process. Thats on top of the packet of crisps and bottle of water she was sent with. Homemade sandwiches have been threatened whilst OH and I retired to the kitchen to exchange tales of sneaking out of school to the chippi, ice cream van and sweet shop with lunch money.
Will give assorted strange sounding milks a whizz in the scones.
Postie finally came with the wool. Obviously not the wool I ordered, despite the seller claiming it looks a bit different in the photograph. I know my sea green DK from my navy blue aran. Have e-mailed links to both of these products in his store in the hopes of persuading the chap in question that I'm not a colourblind bufoon.
Collected yesterdays E-bay needles. An entire carrier bag of them. Have thrown about a third in the bin and dug out a few for friend to take on her visit to the rellies. Will sit down at some point and figure out quite whats there. Seem to have a lot of sock needles **DT if you ain't bought 'em all ready let me know what sizes you need* Postie brought cabling needles so in theory I have enough to tackle just about anything.
Went to make a phone call today and couldn't. It appears the tariff Virgin transferred me to in July is considerably more expensive than the previous one. Sent a text instead and promptly jumped ship to Orange Racoon using my last remaining 7p of credit to obtain the code needed to keep my phone number. Am now paying 12p per minute and per text. On the basis of that I'll average a 36p per week spend. Go me. Need to figure out how to use the 30 free on-line texts each month as this could reduce my expenditure further.
The slightly more rotund illegal immigrant materialised today. After a very confusing conversation it appears shes pregnant. Shes clearly delusional though. Shes convinced shes only 6 weeks gone but is visibly closer to 4 months or so. With emphasis on the or so. Shes expanded rapidly over the hols. Guess shes in for a shock. Not as much as the rest of us though because bending over cleaning loos and tables and shoving the hoover around is giving her backache and dusting causes dizzy spells. Meh. Boss got a similarly confusing explanation and came to see if I thought she had a tumor. This being the obvious explaination when told "I am being having testing for a growth in my tummy." The only giveaway was the further statement "My mother is being very happy". Either her mother is one sadistic biatch or the growth is a foetus. Will find out for sure in about 4-7 months if not a tad sooner.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Ugh. Have had negligable amounts of sleep again. Kept being awoken by random crashes and bangs. Its been hellishly windy. Will go and see what sort of state the roof is in once its light enough to see. Ended up getting up to move the wheelie bins which were playing skittles. Since its bin day today the journey to school will be liberally strewn with wheelie bins and their contents. OH left early with a chainsaw in the boot in anticipation of a very slow trip into work. At least if I find my route to school blocked by trees I can detour in the opposite direction since OH will already have cleared it which will be far quicker. Can't have lost that many trees though because we still have electrickery which is usually the first sign of tree falls. Will be leaving v. early anyway just in case.
Plans for today invlove post storm clear up. That should keep me busy. Also plan to squeeze in an hour or so sewing up mice. I'll shoehorn that in somewhere. Also need to sort through the knitting needles and figure out whats there. Thats surprisingly more appealing than cleaning the DDs bedrooms which is also on todays to do list.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
