I'd like to say no but I've got a fledgling spare tyre to deflate besides which it got me out of the house on my own for half an hour which was worth every single blissful minute. At the tail end of the school holidays every second of peace is more than worth it.

The spare parts for the washing machine arrived and were fitted and nothing happened. The cynic in me would think it was more than co-incidental that at 5 1'2 years old major component failure has set in. Todays mission involves sourcing a new machine, returning OHs bro to the station, collecting a very soggy DD2 from camp and finally returning DD1s friend to her parents. More importantly whilst they slumber on regardless I'm having a cuppa in peace.

Went to Cheshire Oaks yesterday with the intention of buying DD1 new school shoes. Took one look at the queue and decided against it. Will try again a week or so into term. Did manage to buy two fab tops that look v. smart with jeans in the Fat Face sale but overall was most disappointed. A third of the place is now occupied with extortionate brands which are all deserted save for a few bored looking sales peeps. Its rapidly losing its outlet status and becoming just another out of town shopping centre.

Five days until school starts again and the weather forecast is truly awful. I suspect the demonic daughters will be glad to get back.

Normality has resumed. DD2 is home, DD1's friend and oHs bro have departed and OH is back to work tomorrow. I've stayed up far far too late watching wheelchair basketball which is easily the most exciting sport I've seen for quite some time.

In ohter v. exciting news I'm the proud new owner of a shiny washing machine. It's most excellent in almost every respect saving that on start up and programme selection it sounds like one of those cheap and nasty electronic doorbells which plays some unidentifiable tune incredibly badly, in this case its vaguely reminicent of theres no place like home. One rendition was enough to make me consider returning it to the shop, now its beyond mildly irritating and into the realms of gratingly annoying and there doesn't appear to be any way of turning the sound off.

Unsurprisingly todays plans involve a heck a lot of laundry, the drying out of a tent and a brief forray into work to do all the stuff I should have done over the holidays but haven't got round to doing yet. The biggest headache involves the office with mouldy walls. Hoping the insurance company have made a start on that but equally not holding my breath.

Whils the sun shines I'm going to wield the hedge clippers of doom and masacre another chunk of the green stuff in the hopes of making the outside of the house look a bit tidier. Much chopping up of pallets is also required along with a spot of grass obliteration. Looking forward to being outside.

And finally the lovely people at E-bay have a week long free listing session so theres no excuse whatsoever for not getting shut of the old washing machine for spares nor the heap of other stuff that I meant to list but didn't get round to. Tidy house here I come!

So much for having 5 days of holiday left. I have to go in today to allow the fence errectors access and to do a spot of hedge pruning so that one of the fire doors can be opened without a fight.

Doing pretty well at wading through the laundry pile. Even made a start on the ironing although theres still a heck of a lot left to do.

Challenge of the day will be evicting DD1 from her pit at 7am as she was still awake at midnight. I suspect she'll be unbearably grumpy today. If the weather is even vaguely reasonable we'll detour via the village fete at some point today. Other than that I need to track down school uniform from wherever its been stashed and check the demonic daughters have everything they need rather than finding out on Monday night that they've no school socks.

I stayed up far too late again last night although I'm getting better at drop spindling whilst watching the telly box, it only landed on my foot a couple of times and the resultant yarn is looking considerably better too.

My outstanding E-bay item was collected yesterday after only a months delay which covers todays riding lesson. Need to do a spot of money shuffling as cash is everywhere but where it should be. Vaguely regretting sticking £300 a month into a savings account, whilst its nice to know that I'll have a lump sum in February its most infuriating having it tied up when things like the washing machine need replacing. Still I suppose its teaching me financial discipline of sorts.

Eeeek have just turned the calendar to Spetember and realised the grandparents are due on Thursday. This Thursday. So much for leaving the housework until school starts and sloping off to knitting group for the first time in two months. Was hoping to do a bit more weeding in the jungle, I keep discovering all sorts of exciting stuff like slug free courgettes and late summer strawberries. Its far more exciting than finding stray undies under OHs side of the bed. Sadly Granny won't be too impressed by a weed free garden when theres toothpaste liberally splattered across the bathroom mirror. Turns out the DDs were playing noughts and crosses whilst cleaning their teeth.

Went shopping yesterday. Managed to get a weeks worth of food for £40. Need to do a major cull of the food stores again because the cupboards are heaving admitedly mostly with pulses and cake making stuff but that doesn't leave a lot of space for anything else.

OHs shed is getting tidier by the day, unfortunately I can't say the same about the house. In fact I'd swear that stuff from the shed keeps materialising back in the house. Humph.

In slightly more eyewatering news my car insurance renewal arrived and was a surprisingly good price right up until the point I read the small print. My excess has escalated from £50 to £1500. Clearly much homework is required.

It's chuffing freezing. Went to bed last night leaving all the windows open. Regretting it now.

Finally got round to shoving a few of the larger bits on fleabay Have bids on one already. Only another forty or so things to go, v. glad I have all week to avoid doing that. Going to aim for five a day because thats an achievable target. Am also going to brave the realms of FlyLady in the hopes of giving myself a kick up the bahoosie. Got loads done yesterday but nowhere near as much as I could have got done if I'd tried a bit harder.

Plans for the day involve pairing a mountain of socks, drying the last of yesterdays laundry and doing rather a lot of kitchen cleaning. Also need to write a cheque for DD2s residential trip and do a spot of filing as the paperwork has taken on a life of its own and threatens to wedge the drawer shut. Whilst I'm on a roll I need to order the first of this winters log deliveries, although that will have to wait until payday and I need to arrange a service for OHs car which is an expensive one involving the sort of stuff that only gets done once in a blue moon.

More pressingly today is the first day of school and I'm in no way prepared for it. I'm going to walk in the door to a bunch of teachers whose classromms haven't been touched and who will complain about this, another lot whose classrooms have been gutted and will compalin that everything has been moved and then theres the school slovenly ho whose room is exactly as it was when the bell rang at 3:30 on the last day of term right down to the paint brushes in the paint pots and the mouldy fruit at the side of the sink. I took one look at that room and shut the door. Told the boss I wasn't prepared to touch it and I haven't. I suspect I'll spend most of today in there, once I've primed a door and painted a couple of walls. Hoping to leg it super early with the pathetic excuse that I'll return later to gloss the door once the primer is dry.

I did a whole 'sock mountain pairing' pairing thing last week whilst watching TV - DD1 had been complaining that she didnt have any and DD2 complaining she had no school socks - (black trainer socks Marks have stopped selling them) had 2 carrier bags and spent a good hour and half doing the pairing - there were socks in there dating back to when we had toddlers in the house - DD1 graduated this year:eek:

My first day back too - see cant sleep. Had to deal with enormous wasp nest - now wasps dont bother me but they freaked out the 'person promoted' over me. Up shot is extra day without the mad frogs:j
