Take what these idiots say with a pinch of salt. I've heard all sorts of rubbish from recruitment agencies. The last agency I spoke to (after responding to a job ad) said they would not put me forward for the job unless I go to their office and do a basic typing test. The job was for a senior IT support analyst! incredible

hehe, that is not unique to agents, once applied for NHS admin/systems training role and they wanted the ECDL. Now I am way too old to do the ECDL, which is far too basic for my skill set in any event as I have pretty decent PC/software skills since before eCDL was invented...but I didnt fit the criteria there. Not that i am worried about it now, but it does show how if you want to work somewhere badly, then you have to meet the criteria.

so, have they got any jobs in your area of specialism in your region?

Clearly not, as unless there are lots of similarly qualified individuals, then you would know by now.

Which companies do you want to work for? Who do they use and trust? If you dont know, ring them up and find out.

No they have told me they wont help me but advertise jobs all the time

    I am in London

Who do I want to work for? er Anyone! Who do they use? No idea?

OK, perhaps you might work on those points then...as if you dont know then the rest of us have no chance.

for example I live in a rural area of the East Midlands, but I can commute to Leicester, Derby Nottingham withing 1hr-1hr20. Given my expertise, I want to work in a h0tel of say 200 bedrooms as a revenue m@nager, and this will have to be a 4-5 star brand (or they wouldnt have such a position in their structure). so i limit myself to about 5 employers as that is the number which actually fit the billl...think of it as a sales process and it helps. Now I use my networks to uncover opportunities, what is going on in those companies, who is moving on where, and what about the gaps they leave...

What? I have to know who I want to work for? Anyone who has a job!

You mean you want me to say I want to work for a bar chain/wine merchant in accounts within 1 hr from home as a senior purchase ledger assistant ?

I have allready emailed all the compaines I can think of in that field in London and besides that indusrty is not stable as I come from it and since I was made redundant I dont really want to not get caught up in that industry again. I am just looking for a good role in purchase ledger and will work for anyone. When you are unemployed you can not pick these things you just have to take the first thing you get offered, when you get it

A while ago as they told me they had nothing and would be in touch with me when they did. I have no idea who she see but Hays used to call my old company a lot and they use them, probably to replace me!! haha!

I was calling another agency every week and then they told me to stop hassling them as I was the only one who called every week!

Are you on JSA? How about going on a little course? It will add something fresh to your CV, give you a confidence boost and a little extra knowledge. It could be directly or indirectly related to your field..
