Dealing with recruitment agencies – advice

agencies do not tell you who the company is but can't put you forward for a job unless you say its ok so after you have registered with them they may call you tell you the job spec and the salary and thats all0
-
No...the agency calls and says we have this job blah blah blah and you say, "Great, tell me, who is the company that the position is with?". If I didnt know that, I would never put my CV forward with ANYONE. I would not compromise my own integrity there!
And thank you. It wasn't luck though that got me the job;)!
they DO NOT tell you who it is with as they say they can't untill you get the interview0 -
This article is a bit like deja vu..

I agree, they never tell you who the job is with unless you get an interview. All you get is "Leading professional services firm near Liverpool Street requires blablabla Analyst" in my experience anyway0 -
I dont have a problem at all with honest questions, I just dont trust them. Did they ask you for the name of the person that interviewed you too? Because to me that is totally irrelevant unless they are planning on approaching these companies/people for business
Yes, of course. But I am a professional, networking, dealing with agencies is par for the course. If however there is a job for say "sales Manager" and Agent x puts you forward, then Agent y has nothing to gain by putting you forward as well. Why would they waste their time! THat is why they need to know. Professional headhunters DO network and learn about movers and shakers within industry, this can be played to your advantage, depending on your seniority. All recruitment companies who are industry specific need to know where key people are, who they work for, and who might be on the move - so they ask questions. That's just business.how are they?
because in the first one you say you cannot be put forward without your permission, and in the next one you claim that companies have your CV without your permission because agencies put it forward without your permission. So that is contradictory.0 -

I always ask where it is and they say oh London and I am like yes but where and they go central and say nearest tube and they then say why do you want to know?!! LOL0 -

even more bizarre!
Job I just got is 40 mins from home at least even if I leave at midnight, say 50-55mins in normal commuting time (7am) I was delighted as last job was 2 hours. I got grilled from company about distance to work, but in a nice way, ie. how I would find it etc. Clearly this is important factor in recruitment so why would anyone not say this? Especially with fuel costs at moment, we do consider where people live and what their commute might be like ( I have just joined a start up operation so recruiting massively myself at moment)
What industry are you in? At what level? Just so I knows so I can avoid it as it clearly is not operating in the normal way.;)0 -
Then we are clearly talking about different experiences.
I would NEVER even go for interview, or consider it until I knew about the company...! Heaven forbid.
I am telling you in accounts and in IT it seems they are the same experiences
You never get told who they are till you get an interview at which time its too late to even say I dont like the feel of the company (one you have looked up their website) or done some research and maybe they arent very stable or you may have applied to them many years ago.
then its too late to say I dont want to go to see them cause if you do the agency drop you like a lead weight!0 -

I know, it really is laughable to have to be applying to jobs that we dont know what on the earth the company is called or its location, or its point of business in some cases0
