This thread put a smile on my face ha ha ha, nothing nasty intended OP it just reminded me of some of our glorious house moves in the past, absolutely disasterous! One day you will look back and smile maybe even laugh ;)

I hope it all goes well for you our last move was a big one around 300 miles and by far the most stressful especially when our hire lorry broke down at 3am with all of out worldly goods packed into it in the middle of nowhere in very rural Wales! At the time not funny at all but now I look back and smile :)

I hate moving house we used to move quite a loy every couple of years or so until we finally left the big smoke and turned into country bumkins :) It always amazes me how much "stuff" you accumulate, I never realise what a hoarder I am until we move!

Anyway best of luck to ya :)

You have all my sympathies aj, the last house move was the closest I have ever come to wanting to divorce or murder DH. Fortunately he was 100 miles away when I discovered he had a) not done nearly as much at the old house as he had led me to believe and b) allowed us to run out of packing tape on a Sunday in the days before shops were open 7 days a week.

Morning all. Well as you might have imagined, nothing went according to plan yesterday. It was late when we got the van, so it was 7pm last night before we were able to start loading. It wasn't the quickest process ever, given that I'm not the strongest soul out. :o

We got half of the big things loaded and are about to start on the rest this morning. We were supposed to have got down to the new place last night but wont get there until late tonight now which means we wont get done as many trips as we expected to do. I didn't realise how long it would take us to load, I seriously underestimated that.

There are also millions of 'bits' in every room that I can't face dealing with and no-one wants to take with us, so I think I will ignore the fact we will lose out financially on them, and will box it all up and take it to the charity place. It would take weeks of sorting out and ebaying and I just don't have that time. And there was I thinking I had sorted most of this stuff out.

However, the bottle of wine that was in the fridge, is still intact. I'm just all mouth really. :rotfl:

Wish me luck for today. I have a feeling I'm gonna need it. :D

Aw, have a hug from me. And I know what it's like having a gammy arm too, we moved all 3 boys at the end of June (2 home from Uni and one back to his Uni town, where he's now transferred his job), but at least I was able to just watch them working! Well, I did sit on the stairs at DS1's flat and clean the filth off the skirting boards for a bit ...

Some furniture was involved, but at least that was only being moved locally, so I'd hired a people carrier, I can only drive automatics these days. It was shaped like a hearse! But took a single bed, no problems.

Anyway, just wittering really. MAKE SURE THE BEDS ARE MADE FIRST WHEREVER YOU'RE SLEEPING tonight, and any future nights ....

    Cheers guys. :)

Back home today for 2nd load. Yesterday was a total nightmare. Only got half the van unloaded then the heavens opened. Because we were struggling to move things. it was all going very slowly and we didn't want to risk trying to unload the superking (very very ) heavy mattress as we knew it was going to be soaked before we managed to get it into the house. So we slept on the floor last night.

Daughter was scared in her new bedroom (old, old house so very creaky and noisy) and son threw a strop because daughter was getting to go in the van today and he was to go in the car. (He was in the van yesterday.)

Everything is taking longer to move than we expected and the family that we thought would help us unload at the new house end, made excuses not to help. OH misses his old Army mates (who he said would have been there to help no problem) and he's exhausted and stressed.

Just to top it all off, the electricity in the new place kept tripping but it was doing so even after we went round every room and unplugged everything so I'm worried we've got dodgy electrics.

Why oh why did I think renting a Church of Scotland property was a good idea?! I foolishly believed everything would be fine because they are 'nice people'. :rotfl:
