Phone the boss, tell him unless the van is there within the hour, you are going to the nearest van rental place that has a suitable van, renting one and getting them to phone him (i.e. useless boss) to authorise charging it to the company. If that is not agreed your OH will be staying in your current proper home until the van turns up and he has two clear days (ala weekend) to move his stuff. Might be time to start suggesting that inconveniencing you is going to have more of a work impact.Adventure before Dementia!0

OH is on phone to boss now. He's a quiet unassuming type of bloke who goes out of his way for the company. Can't help feeling they take advantage of that, might have to get him to be more of a loudmouth about things. Wonder who I could get to rub off on him?

Huge sympathies.
I hope you feel better or feel drunk soon.

Right now, I have no idea where I will be on Sunday. :rotfl: Would take more than a few cocktails to cheer me up but thanks for the thought.

Now agreed that OH can hire van and company will pay. New van has been provisonally booked for pick up at the end of today, providing the previous hirers return it on time that is.
We had people coming to help load the van this morning/afternoon (I tore a muscle in my arm ages ago and it's weak now so struggle to lift heavy things these days). They now can't help as we can't load until after 6pm so it's down to OH and me. Will definitely need the vodka by then I suspect.
Edit. FGS! Just had a call from the hire company to say there's an issue with a company renting a 7.5 ton van, some legalise about operator licence restrictions. We may have to end up paying for this ourselves and claiming this back too. I wish we'd just let a proper removal company move us and sent the £1.5k bill to the company instead of trying to be decent and save money by doing iit ourselves. We can't afford to have any more money outstanding, the van hire and fuels cost is going to come in at around £700 ish!

Are there any young lads near you that would spend even half an hour shifting stuff in return for a couple of cans of lager and profuse thanks to their mum, girlfriend etc?"This site is addictive!"

Not really elona. We have mostly primary school kids round us.
The people that were coming to help were kind souls that we don't even know all that well but OH had dealings with in the place he worked pre relocation. Herman - MP for all!

moving is mega stressful - can you just cancel the self-drive jobbie and book a proper removal company to do it, billed to your OH's employer? Thats what I would be doing, and I'd be doing as little of the physical work as possible with the move - because you'll have it all to do when its got to its new location! Your OH's boss' timetable is being screwed because of them, not you.0

Poor you, even at the best of times moving is stressful. Now that you have the delay can you get a bottle to share with oh after the move?
Its amazing who can be roped in to lift stuff.....I got a parking ticket person to lift my dog into the car this morning.
Charm and helplessness. 0 -
Hugs, and you know to get a removal firm next time.
Maybe OH needs to look for work with a better company? Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0
