To anyone who has brought a voucher and consider whether to get their money back or not.

I too have a voucher and was undecided so I emailed Groupon mentioning to them that there has been talk on the internet of this company being dodgy and asked if they have vetted the company.

Had a reply this morning saying that the company is legit and should I have have any trouble redeeming the voucher they will give me a full refund.

So with me paying on credit card, Groupon offering a refund and me having a very, very very old mattress I'm thinking I'm just gonna roll with it and see what I get.

I think you are missing the point, it's pretty much agreed you'll get a mattress, and like you say if you don't you will get your money back (either through Groupon or your credit card company).

The point is that rather than getting the deal that was sold to you (a mattress that normally sells for £1000+ for an amazing price of just £250) you are probably only going to get a mattress that is worth £250 (or less). Now if you are happy knowing you were sold something on that basis, then fine, redeem your voucher, but I can't help feeling that someone has got one over on me. Let me put in another way if the deal had been for Memory Foam Mattresses, normally selling at £250 but available through Groupon for £200 (20% off) would you, I or anyone else been quite so keen to buy one? We would probably have had a surf on the internet and found that you can already by Memory Foam Mattresses around this sort of price, but they aren't all that good, and if you want a decent one you need to spend £1000.

As for Groupon saying the company is legit - this is a very sweeping statement. Did they know the address on the website is a forwarding company address, designed to give companies a prestigious address (an address to impress)

    completeformations(dot)co(dot)uk/company-shop/london-mail-forwarding.html

(only way I'm allowed to post links as a new user)

Did they know that until a day or so ago the company claimed to be a limited company - on their contact us page it clearly said Clouds Memory Foam Ltd (since removed) - yet a check with companies house revealed no such company exists.

Did they also know the domain name was only registered 20th June 2011 using a name that does not appear in any search I did and an address that appears to be false (check it yourselves)

    Domain Name: CLOUDSMEMORYFOAM.COM
    Created Date: 20-Jun-2011
    Expiry Date: 20-Jun-2013
    Nameserver: vz831-ns1.nufuture-ns.com
    Nameserver: vz831-ns2.nufuture-ns.com
    Registrant Name: James Moorein
    Registrant Company: James Moorein
    Registrant Address: Lonsdale Gardens
    Registrant Address:
    Registrant Address:
    Registrant Address: London
    Registrant Address: London
    Registrant Address: W11 7AF
    Registrant Address: United Kingdom

So it would be interesting as to what the criteria is to be considered a legit company or indeed a slightly dodgy company when Groupon check you out.

Basically this company (are they a company?) seem to be covering their tracks rather, don't they? - just a phone number really - and what happens when your mattress starts sagging after 3 months and you want to claim on the "5 year guarantee" they proudly display on the website? What will you know about them when the phone number you try doesn't work? An address, the name of someone, information on compaines house listing the directors, the domain registrant - ummm no!

Obviously this is all speculation on my part based on the evidence above, at the end of the day you have to make up your own mind

So now they have used a "Protect your identity" company to hide the original false registrant details - determined not have any names leading back to them aren't they? Wonder why that might be?

Bit late for that considering all the details are on here away.

I know nothing about Clouds at all. We bought our kingsize memory foam mattress from Costco, made by Silentnight. Think we paid £300 or there abouts. Have had it for a couple of years now and we are really please with it. The most comfortable mattress I have used. They still sell them too.
I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

  • Damn damn damn, I already redeemed my voucher and paid for shipping :(. When I got the confirmation email that's when I got suspicious though - customer number 00002000ish, from a company that's supposed to have been around for over a year? All the quick detective work you have all put in is making me very anxious though; I already phoned groupon and I will get a refund if it never turns up, but what if it turns up and it's a really terrible mattress or poor quality? What do I do, do I have any rights then?
  • I just registered specially to say that this company involved in the Groupon offer, which looks a bit dodgy, seems to be attempting to trade off the reputation of a well-established bed company called "Bed in the Clouds", based in Wales. They sell memory foam mattresses and we've had a king sized one for at least 5 years now, having found the company through a Daily Telegraph article with a readers' discount code. It is really good quality and not expensive. Their web site is a little bit basic (I don't think it has had any money spent on developing it since we bought the mattress!) but the product is good. My wife and I are both tall and prone to back problems, which the mattress has certainly relieved.

This is a link to the company's memory foam mattress page:[edit: wasn't allowed to post a link as a new user, so you will have to google "bed in the clouds space age memory foam" and that should take you there]

Just wanted to post that since I wouldn't want them to get tarred with the same brush as the Groupon-related lot. I don't have any connection with the company other than as a customer.

  • Hi just thought I would share my experience with you.
I ordered the 2 mattress option with groupon and paid £450.00, received the voucher and waited until the Monday to order, I found the website just crashed repeatedly but I kept trying as on a few occasions I even got as far as adding the credit card number to pay for the p&p before it crashed.
However I had to give up as I never got any further and the sale would not complete.
After seeing all the bad reports I got cold feet and emailed Groupon after 4 days to cancel the order, they duly refunded the money to my account, then my husband noticed from our online banking that we have been charged over £47.00 by clouds for delivery, we have had no emails, no confirmation screen, absolutely nothing to tell us the order had ever gone through, when I call Clouds I get a voice mail message and Groupon have refused to pay us back the P&P as they say it is nothing to do with them. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
