Is there a knack to Soda streaming? we got our machine all loaded up,the gas is fizzing into the bottle(to the extent that it overflows!),but the end product is still flat..any tips please.

PS,sold out in all our local Argos,i got ours from Costco...its the graphite/grey one and comes complete with 2 bottles and 12 taster flavours...£35...

You need to do six short bursts of the gas into the bottle (until you hear the noise 6 times), make sureyou tilt the bottle to release the pressure before removing and voila. When adding syrup do not shake the bottle, pour into the bottle whilst the bottle is tilted at an angle (to avoid overflowing) screw the lid on and gently turn the bottle upside down and back again once to mix.

If you don't do the short bursts then the bottle overflows and you lose the fizz, and again if you don't tilt the bottle when adding syrup often it overflows losing the fizz.

    Enjoy :)

Thanks for this I was looking at one. But have now found out it is cheaper to just buy value/basics sparkling water. If the gas costs a tenner and makes 60 litres and cheap water is 13-16p for a 2l bottle. Can someone tell me if there are any advantages to Soda Stream? Or do I just want one because I remember it from childhood, lol?

    Yes I agree with you

I went as far as reserving one to collect on Friday and then I got up Friday morning and thought ' why on earth am I buying this,I have no space in my kitchen to put it,I have a cupboard full of un-used gadgets that seemed like a good idea at the time and which I never use and I can buy 2l bottles of fizzy water for 16p? ' :rotfl:

So I saved myself some money and didn't buy it

Ahhhhh.......the penny is dropping, as more and more people will discover once the novelty's worn off.

Once you realise that it's actually rather more expensive to make fizzy water with a Sodastream than it is to buy it from a supermarket, and a lot more trouble, and you've got to put the wretched thing somewhere (putting up with the derision of your friends!), it makes the purchase pointless.

Save yourself some money - forget Sodastream. They know full well each generation gives up on it as pointless and expensive after a few weeks. That's why they have to remarket it all over again every few years, once the previous buyers have grown up and moved on. :)

When you calculate the cost of a bottle of cheap fizzy water, there is no real cost saving to be made, but it helps the environment, is enormous fun, and so convenient.

There is no cost saving whatsovever to be made. THESE ALWAYS COST FAR MORE THAN JUST BUYING FIZZY DRINKS FROM THE SUPERMARKET!

And it is worse for the environment. Think about all the effort, materials and energy that go into maufacturing and shipping around the SodaStream machines, bottles, and concentrates - compared to that being done much more efficiently in a large factory.

Thanks OP. I got one to put away for Xmas for my bf who is notoriously difficult to buy for. When you was younger he got to choose between a Mr Frosty and a sodastream. He chose the Mr Frosty and says he has regretted it ever since! I'd pay £25 just to see him smile when he opens it even if it doesn't get used lots!
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.
