Got this off the net if you are going to try doing wine:
If you try to fizz e.g., wine, with a sodastream it will almost immedtiately bubble all over the place. The trick is to add very short bursts each time waiting 10s of seconds for the fizz to recede. Over a period of a few minutes the desired effect can be achieved.0 -

I managed to dig out an old one from my wifes parents house. There was some gas left in the somewhat aged catridge, so I had a go making fizzy squash etc. I thought it might be a good idea to try some of the new flavours - on ebay a few places are selling the taster packs at half price. I blogged about it below:

Unfortunately the gas ran out on the same day the flavours arrived. I popped around a few places trying to get a refil for the old catridge, but no-one stocked them anymore. The reason for the higher prices is that the original catridges had 35l, new catridges have 60l and cost roughly double the price. You can still get the old ones filled till september this year for about £4.99 off their site, but you'll be paying another £5.99 P&P so not so good. I did order it and the view was to see how much I used it myself.
The main eco use is to reduce the amount of plastic we use & the 'food miles'.
I tried all of the syrups and to be honest I thought they were suprisingly good. The diet cola tastes good, not really cheap like supermarket brands.
My main idea is to make my own syrups. I made my own cream soda and it was OK (lots of sugar in the water, add vanilla essence and shake) but the sugar took out the fizz - it really needs to be in a syrup form!
You can swap over the catridges at maplins - but I believe Argos would probably do this as well.
As for the OP, thanks for the post! I wouldn't have bought a new one at £50 as that buys a lot of pop, but £25 a bargain, I've already reserved one for pickupTim0 -

Hi assuming you mean the post mix syrups, can these definitely be used with the soda stream machines? Thanks.:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:0 -
Yes you can use post mix but be aware it's a puncture seal on the "tap" end so unless you're using their equipment it's tricky to use one of those 7 litre mixes AND post mix syrup is EVIL the Coke stuff is like Tar nasty and you don't want to get it on your skin it's quite an irritant.
Once one of the girls was changing a box and the new one was already unsealed and it pee'd post mix all over a sealed floor, it took the sealant off the floor very nasty clean up reqd.
Having said that it'd be quite a cheap way of getting real Coke etc as long as you're careful. I'd decant it into another bottle or series of bottles then ditch the post mix bag0 -

All in all if you look at the ingredients of the syrups they are better than most fizzy drinks bought in the shops, but it all comes down to how extreme each person is in regards to what they do/dont drink.0 -
bought this today, but much prefer the old style ones - screwing the bottle in is a right faff (no way kids can do it) - much easier when you just put the bottle in, and pulled a handle
