Crime Scene House Buying

I think I know the house you mean - it has been reduced from 270K down to 165K as a 'normal' sale before being listed for 145K at auction. I guess there were no takers at 165K. It's actually exactly the kind of house we are looking for - good sized semi near good schools in a nice part of the world. However, I've been thinking as you have and quickly decided the house's history wasn't worth the massive saving. I have a small daughter and would worry how she might react if/when she found out its past. It could be fine and she'd have the most excellent ghost-story filled sleepovers ever but there's also a good chance she'd just find it really disturbing! I think most people in the area will know of the house's history and I suspect that will impact upon resale for quite a while. My guess is that someone will buy it to rent it out....
That's the one!
I think most of the locals are aware of the house's history, and whilst there's a good chance people have died in that exact same house in years past, I think murder gives it that slightly more sinister edge.
We probably wont be in a position to make an offer even if we do like it, as the auction is this weekend. Will ask the estate agents where the auction is taking place as wouldnt mind finding out what it actually goes for.0 -

Not "new age", more, "lost any common sense of any kind".
Teasing my dd, I showed her (in a book) advice where you leave the hair from your hairbrush on your fences to "deter" deer (it was an American book). She looked at me queer (hilarious!) and said: Mum, we don't get deer? So I said: "Exactly! It works then!"
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Ok - this was based on an old Chinese proverb I'd read years before about wheat/tigers; but my dd's face was priceless! She's had me consigned to the great wheelie bin in the sky every since.
The undeniable fact is ... it worked: no deer
If Smudge sticks work for the poster ... who are we to deny it works when it clearly works for them?0 -

Fact: houses do not commit murder (inanimate objects)
Fact: people commit murder0 -
Can't you post a rightmove link so that we can all have a nosey at it?If you feel my comments are helpful then I'd love it if you 'Thanked' me!0

The whole community in my house died of the plague in 1349 and were buried right there so if there is plenty of scope for some sort of supernatural over-shadowing ... but nothing.0 -

Please understand, I will try to write this with sensitivity, please do not be offended.
There is a house on the market in the area that I am looking to buy....at a total bargain of a price. Almost HALF of what it's actually worth.
Unfortunately, I know a little bit about the history of the house. In the house a man killed his wife and then committed suicide.
The vendor's, I assume, are the children, and apparently want a quick sale.
My question is, two fold:
1) From a practical point of view, is this horrific incident enough to cause the price to be slashed so dramatically? Or do you think there could be other problems with the house?
2) From a person point of view, would you be happy living in a house with such a history. Obviously this one is purely opinion, and perhaps is insensitive of me to ask, but I am really curious!
This doesn't happen to be a house in medway in kent does it?0 -

I thought it was a documentary.0 -

Looks like you were their target audience then
I go to that town to visit a particular shop a couple of times a year and keep meaning to drive past that house but I always forget!0 -
If you love the house buy it. Mines a girl and she looks after us. She`s 112 years old and she`s warm and caring. If you love it, it will love you back. And I dont care if people think I`m crazy. She`s defo a girl.0
