I will update all totals and add all tickers this evening. Have the window so minimised at work I'd find it a challenge atm.

The £900 counts only if you wouldn't usually have used it for something else ie if you were going to go on a big shopping spree but instead decide to stick it in emergency savings or off a CC, then it counts. This challenge isn't so much about making the extra money, but bettering your fiancial situation by £1000 for whatever purpose (savings, less debt, emergency savings buffer, £1000 off the morgage etc etc)

So if I manage to force myself to make a sandwich on a morning rather than spend £2.50 on a jacket potato for dinner, then that £2.50 would count? And if I do it for a week I can put £12.50 in savings? Or if I see a dress I like in a shop but say to myself NO! and make one with some of the masses of fabric I have at home, that £30 or whatever would count? That's the kind of savings I'd be making I think.

I say yes to that Tete, as long as you move the money into savings, rather than doing a me and saying no, but actually not being any better off because I couldn't afford it in the first place! ;)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Yep Birdie's got it spot on - it counts but only if you actually move the money into savings, not just leave it to get eaten up in the bank account. The aim at the end of the challenge is to look at your savings account and think 'there is £1000 there I otherwise wouldn't have'

Ha Birdie that's probably what I'd be doing!

What if the savings are for something, say moving, and I spend some of them on that thing, is that allowed? Am I over-thinking it?

I think you're overthinking it! I'd just address where it comes from, and would it normally have been saved or is it an effort to save it? What you do with it eventually is up to you.

Totally agree with this. For example - I am going to email Next and ask them to remove 2 sets of delivery charges from my Next account as I did 3 separate orders last night. Then I will move that £8 from my bank account to my credit card so it is actually paid off instead of absorbed by something else.

Well I just got a quote for hair and make up for me and my two bridesmaids on the wedding day, and it was £450.... YIKES!!!

Is it just me or does anyone else think that's scandalous?? It's more than my wedding dress cost... and over twice more expensive than the 9kg of cheese we have ordered for our wedding cake! Methinks we will be going to the local salon. And I'll be telling everyone we're *going to* a wedding, to avoid 200% bridal tax...

Planning a wedding sucks because you just feel like everyone's trying to rip you off the whole time :(

That is a crazy amount but I know I was quoted crazy prices too.

Have a look into a mobile beautician and have a trial with them. They are usually significantly cheaper and will come to you on the day.

With regards hair, I would have a hair trial at a local salon. Do you need complicated styles or easy ones?

I was quoted £80 but she did it and I thought I looked like someone else. So I did my own on the day (and I'm not a make-upy person with skills like the multi-talented Cinny) and it came off really well because it was just like a glam version of my usual make up. Used the money I saved to get some primer and things at the Benefit counter (well on ebay!). Actually went to get a Benefit makeover to get some hints - I was nearly crying by the end of it I looked so bad, the damned woman was far too busy oggling some topless bloke giving out samples of drink and only spoke to me directly to try to get me to buy products.
