Which bit of North Yorks and what job? I cry every time I go back over the Tyne Bridge, I'm rubbish! My brother is at the poly too, I never let him forget it!Tete_en_l'Air wrote: »Oh come on kids! Knockturn Alley too - full of the DARK arts?? Everything's a play on words in those books, that's why I love them so much. Remus Lupin? The Pensieve? Dolores Umbridge? I love it I love it I love it
We had bad news tonight, my uncle has advanced bladder cancer - they're going to operate in the next four weeks so we'll see how he goes. My grandma's terrified bless her - five kids she had, two died 6 months apart in 2008, one she doesn't speak to and the other is a twit. This uncle is the only normal one left and he lives miles away on the south coast so he's not even nearbyNothing we can do but wait, I just feel awful for her.
Thats awful news hon I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope the operation goes well.
I don't get the Dolores Umbridge one but I always saw the other ones.

Congrats on the cards Dinah and Birdie. I need to get off my behind and register on the Scottish electoral roll and then apply for it. It would be the answer to a lot of my problems too
Sorry to hear about your uncle Tete - hope it isn't as bad as it sounds
Hope the graduation goes well Zig!
Happy 3 months Poppy!

Dinah you're outnumbered if we're going to have a Newcastle/Northumbria spat. My course came third in the whole country behind Oxford and Cambridge in the Guardian tables this year - it's not all about the colour of your bricks you know
NIM - Also Remus as in Romulus and Remus ... Dolores is Spanish for pain and umbridge as in 'to take umbrage' it's like indignance - there's loads and loads. Malfoy comes (I reckon) from mal foi which would be the French for bad faith. All the spells are Latin. She's really clever that JK!
Hi CMD you've been quiet lately, hope all is well x

Colour of the bricks got me my job, only 8 unis in the country (all old ones) are actually acredited to do what I do, the rest do the course but its lower rated by the industry, I think I was lucky to finish when I did though as when I did around 50% of people got work in their field, now apparently less than 10% are working in it a year after graduating - and I don't dare think about how much a MSc costs nowadays! Besides, you can't put two unis in one town and not expect rivalry! I think the main reason I got into the rivalry was too many god awful nights in Blu Bamboo - they really liked to stir up the crowd. Is it just me or did the dance floor in there dip towards the middle so you always ended up dancing in a pond?Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I knew the spells were all Latin, I didnt realise Dolores was spanish for pain, I edited for Remus above
D just pointed out Tree-Lawn-e, that upset meThis was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
Just looked again at your post NIM - you're mixing your word origins - Latin for moon is luna - lupus just means wolf as in 'lupine howl'. Wake up haha, sorry I'm a total geek
There are whole websites devoted to the etymology of HP.
Ah Blu Bambu... I fell down those stairs twice on one night onceAnd one time we were outside waiting for our taxi and this lad came over with a cardboard box full of battered fish and sausages as though he'd just robbed a chippy - that sausage was the best thing ever (at the time) ahhh... I was doing my run on the quayside on Sunday and went past Buffalo Joe's and had to stop because I was laughing at the memory of taking our Holy Catholic Irish friends there for the first time, they were quite taken with the bar staff in their bra tops and chaps, we couldn't get them to leave hahaha!

Haha it's like a varsity match in here, glad Tete's got my back! I did Food Science which you'd never find at Oxbridge, it's mainly at newer uni's so not too many red-brickers to fight for jobs with luckily. Working near York for a food manufacturer so I've done OK anyway!
I was in Sydney a few weeks back and was totally unimpressed by the harbour bridge as it's pretty much identical to the Tyne Bridge, could have saved myself that giant airfare

Please say that food manufacturer makes chocolate bars and lets you give random people you meet on the internet tours and small swims in the vats of chocolate. And may or may not have in house varieties of oompa loompas I can take home and get to iron and clean for us.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I am grand thanks Tete. Am trying to organise and run a 2 day event (tomorrow and Friday) and it has been a nightmare trying to get everything sorted. Bit ironic considering that I am deemed 'too' pregnant to run 1 day events but I can organise and run a 2 day one.
So I am wrecked. Things should quieten next week and I only have just over 3 weeks to go!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
