I think maybe i'll listen to my head and other compers on this and say 'NO'

Maybe when i'm retired after winning loads and living somewhere hot and sunny - I'll write a book about comping :-) (well we can all dream)
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!
  • Yes, I agree with most on here, me and my hubby were approached by a channel, cant remember whic one, to appear on a programme about reptiles, as we breed them but we did not do it because of all the reality programmes on at the moment were they seem to make a laughingstock of you. We are both glad we said know as they aired a programme call ed "Essex Jungle", which was funny to watch but they made it seem is if all reptile keepers were idiots!!!!

yeah I had that message from pennypinchers too and just ignored it. Yeah Treacle I really dont think it would be worth you doing it. It will probably end up causing you alot of grief in some way. Channel4 always try to cause problems and portray things on a negative light.

I also received the message from Penny Pinchers (CH4) and have asked on their wall if they could give me some more information.

I am sure the Penny Pinchers one was about bargain hunting? But they do have a CH4 logo under their info tab so its looking like its them.

Lets be honest here, for someone to send a random message on FB offering you the chance to be on a documentary. It appears to me that these companies are now using social networking sites to target people and offer their "5 mins of fame".

What worries me more is that anyone would actually consider putting their whole life in the public eye for what?

This is not a documentary on "Help for Heroes" or "Children in Need"... This will more than likely be completely derogatory towards us compers.

I unfriended them too, if you are able to simply tell them how happy you are and not care about any feedback from the public then do it.

I don't tell many people what we win, even in family circles there is a little bit of envy and mick taking. It is a shame because our little home is very happy - we all have hobbies and comping or "winning" as the children call it is mine.

I don't tell strangers that I meet about it though, I have never discussed it at work and would never tell any of my neighbours. Not through embarasement, but through privacy. They don't need to know what we do. :)
    Wishing you all good luck!

Even if the documentary is portrayed in a positive light am I the only person who is concerned about thousands of new members thinning out the prizes or promoters being discouraged from running comeptitions?

I'm not saying I have a problem with new members but I'm worried about the volume of new members it would attract.
Thanks to everyone who posts the comps :A

Well done Treacle in working even though having a diability. Its great to see that even with your condition you still work and get on with life the best you can. :T

I agree with others I wouldn't do the TV programme but I wouldn't want the negitive comments or the hassel.

Hopefully they won't air the show as we might get more people jumping on the comping bandwagon and that means less wins for us! Purely selfish reasons I know. :)

I am the one who was slated in the press recently by people who know nothing about me or my state of health. There is such a wide spectrum of pain, exhaustion & symptoms with people with fibromyalgia & I carried on working with it for many years until I was forced into retirement by my employers after working for them for 28 years in a job I loved but as I was always contracting viruses which lay me flat for months on end they could not continue to employ me & my doctor said that I was unlikely to ever be able to work again so I was pensioned off. Those people were saying that I was a workshy layabout & scrounging off the state & the tax payer, which I do not as I AM a taxpayer & I didn't get any help adapting my house for my disabilities, I paid for them all myself from my winnings on Deal or no Deal & unlike what someone said I did not stand for weeks on end I was sitting for 7 days of filming & yes it was extremely painful & tiring but an experience I would not have wanted to miss & which has changed my life as I met my now best friend from it who has been amazing, she drives me to visit my parents as I'm unable to drive long distances because of my pain & exhaustion & previously I didn't see my parents for years because of this. My DLA was granted for an indefinite period because not only do I suffer from FMS but I also have rheumatoid arthritis, a serious eye condition which means I could lose my vision without daily steroid drops & a serious triple fracture which never healed because of my FMS. I travelled to Kenya using special assistance which means they take you everywhere in a wheelchair & are seated at the front near the exits with extra legroom & yes it was extremely painful to sit for such a long period but it was worth the pain for the experience of a lifetime, it was only 4 days which was more than enough for me but I would not have missed it for the world. Those ignorant people should not prejudge people they know nothing about. I also have been contacted by this company but I would definitely not go there after my experience, there are far too many nasty, evil minded people in the world who just seem to enjoy ripping innocent people to pieces instead of condemning the people who deserve it. The press wrote things in the articles which I never said as I don't live a luxury lifestyle or earn a living from my comping so I would be worried about the media editing the filming to sensationalise it which could have adverse effects on the people involved in the filming.
