Not a win as such - but fab comping news - I'm going to be on TV :-)

I'm going to be in a channel 4 documentary about comping :-)

Just hoping I don't get bad press from it (felt very sorry recently for a comper who got bad comments following a newspaper article)
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

I think you need to be very careful about this - I am sure you have given it some thought anyways. A question to ask is "what do I gain from this" hopefully a large paycheck - there is bound to be some negative press/comments from this and you will have to see if the benefits (to you) outweighs any negative press. I for one would love to watch and wish you all the best, but please think carefully before committing to it.

I wouldn't get any payment at all for doing it. Just my 5 mins of fame. Benefits to me = None.

Am a bit worried about the negative press - But I work (20-24 hours a week) and claim no benefits at all and it is just something extra I do.

I think a lot of the bad press has been from about those on benefits especially disability benefits and comping etc.. Like the recent one in the press - she has the same pain condition as me and in the paper it said she'd been to kenya, on deal or no deal etc.. and people picked up on that saying if she could do that she could work.

I for one know how up and down fibro can be - I doubt I'd be able to manage the queues through an airport - let alone sitting on a plane for hours - an hour in a car or short stint in a shaky bus is often enough to bring tears of pain :-( Other days I'm almost healthy and can do pretty much anything.

I'm lucky to be able to work from home with competitionclub and work around my life and disabilities.

    Hi Treacle,

What are you hoping to get from doing this? I would truly think twice about it - its your time, your "risks" - why would you do it if there was nothing in it for you other than the possibility of having negative exposure? I am not being critiical, just generally interested. I lost a load of weight once (all back now :( - and it got into the papers etc, and depsite a lot of positive comments, my privacy did feel very invaded and should I ever lose again I would not want to be "exposed" that way.

    Hi,

All the best with appearing on the TV show!

As others have said, i really hope you've had a think about it. When you put your life out there in the media, however positive the story is, there will always be good and bad comments. People will always find something to say.

Then there's the issue of editing...

Please be careful! All the best and let us know how you got on and when it airs x

I wish you all the best hun, but I will have to agree with some others that there will always be alot of negative comments regardless of benefits or disabilities. Some people generally have a negative view about comping regardless of the persons background so I do feel you need to prepare yourself if you do go ahead and do this, I have heard all sorts said to compers over the years including them being leeches sucking companies dry for free stuff and ruining competitions for genuine readers/viewers/subscribers. Channel 4 tend to edit their footage in such a way to make things seem to be that may not be so...

I could never put myself in that situation as you have no control on the editing, you are definitely much braver than me!

    Lots of luck :)
