Click the import cd button in the bottom right, it looks greyed out but isn't. Once the cd is imported it should just be a case of pluging the ipod into the computer and it should sync automatically.
No you don't get any software with your ipod, you even have to download itunes.0 -
Hi thanks for that I have now managed to put my name there and have succesfully imported some songs - but I have not got an import buttons anywhere otherthan under file - import - as I already had a list of songs ready to import they imported ok now I have an issue wheras I insert a CD into the hardrive then click on file - import and it brings up the tracks in a small box but I cannot get them into the itunes list - I am getting so frustrated !0

Need help badly where is the import button - I have not got one please can anyone advise ?0

You get a USB cable supplied with the ipod that plugs into the usb port on your pc and then into you nano. When you open itunes, you should be able to see the ipod plane as day on the left hand side. As for importing tunes from a CD, when you put the CD and view the tracks in itunes, click track number 1, press shift and click the last track number.....you should now have all tracks selected? Right, now simply drag and drop them into your itunes music library. Let me know how you get on.0

This thread is confusing me a little as there seems to be a few issues here.
First here are the Apple Video tutorials which give a very good explanation to using Itunes and Ipod. The first is done with an older version of Itunes so it won't be 100% right:
Itunes Video Tutorials
Ipod Video Tutorial (new)
One thing to make clear is what 'Import' means. Import, as Itunes use it, means to import music from a CD into Itunes. 'Import' is never used to refer to getting music onto ipod - That's called 'Sync'.
I'm not sure why Sync would be greyed out.
First you need to set in the Itunes settings if you want the whole library to be put onto the Ipod. If the library is too big, then this might be why you can't.
If you want to just put selected songs on the Ipod then the correct way is to create a playlist with those songs and tell the Ipod to sync with that playlist (all explained in the videos above).

hey Lovingitifitsabargain, how you getting on?
i've just been on the phone to apple for 20 minutes  went trough quite along process to no avail. now i've tried connecting it and it says USB device not recognised.
maybe my computer is screwed aswell, as it began 'not recognising' my sony ericsson walkman phone?
there's someone coming round on the 2nd or 3rd to pick it up.
they said they will try and fix it or give me a new one.
so if you're still having problems, give them a call!
