Item not received - Advice needed

  • Soolin never said to open a dispute immediatly she sad to leave it a couple of days, which is what you said so you actually agree.

Open a basic dispute in paypal, not a chargeback. Tell seller again that item has not been received and you will contact her again tomorrow if nothing arrives. Then after 48 hours or so escalate the dispute to a full chargeback.

That says open a dispute now and escalate after 2 days, opening a dispute is likely put the sellers back up and OP has to wait for Paypal to investigate. An email asking from the tracking number followed by email asking for a refund if the tracking number offers very little is the way to go. If either requests are not met then a dispute should be opened.

No, a basic dispute (I should have said dialogue) does not count against a seller it merely communicated formally through paypal and is a very sueful tool. It only counts when it is escalated to a full chargeback.

As for tracking whilst it is nice to see the tracking sometimes it is still immaterial. After all the buyer knows the item hasn't arrived, why do they need tracking to prove that?

Also today is now day 11 from payment, even if a chargeback si opened in another 2 days it won't close for 10 days after that, and in total that is 23 days which is surely long enough for anyone to wait for a refund?

Where a seller reassures me and makes me feel comfortable about the delay then I often wait until I hit week three before I push for a refund. I do not think that is unreasonable at all.

I understand how the system works, I still disagree.

Would be useful if delivery has been attempted, of course the seller should check this but if the parcel was sitting a depot and the seller wasn't very clued up on how to handle this situation I'd rather have my item than a refund.

If a dispute isn't open the OP may not have to wait that long for the seller to refund, they may agree it's lost a refund tonight.

Certainly not unreasonable but there is a difference between a seller who doesn't want to resolve and one who doesn't know what to do (we don't know what type OP's seller is yet). Buy shopping on eBay you accept are generally dealing with normal people and asking two questions before going to a dispute doesn't take much effort.

Seller said there is no tracking number, but she has a receipt number and is going to contact the post office today. How does having a receipt number help?
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

It doesn't help at all, she probably just has a the proof of posting slip number. However, if it were ParcelForce then i though tracking numbers were automatically generated?

  • I would also assume PF have a tracking number, possible the seller sent it standard parcels? If it wasn't sent PR but by Royal Mail ask the seller to phone your local delivery office to check to see if the parcel is there.

If you don't get anything positive from either Royal Mail or the seller I would very politely ask the seller how you should wait before they (the seller, not RM) refund you and depending upon the answer go from there.

I got this response: have been in touch with the post office and they said there is no way of tracing the item even though i have a receipt number etc.
They have told me to wait 15 working days for it to turn up and if there is still no sign of it, I need to fill out a form that the post office give to Royal Mail to search for it.

Im very sorry for any inconvenience, I have done everything I can and posted it promptly for you - its down to the Royal Mail I'm afraid.

Anyone suggest what I should respond as I am not happy to wait!

OPen a full chargeback via paypal (make sure you stick with paypal and don't get diverted to ebay). Make sure it is a full chargeback for INR..do not follow my other advice about giving the seller another couple of days , they have shown their hand now so it's time to play tough.

The paypal dispute will stay open for 10 days and if item doesn't arrive within that time frame it will close and you will get a full refund. If item arrives meanwhile you can easily close the dispute.

Thanks Soolin, I have opened a dispute now and gone through to the next step. Do I bother responding to them to say I am unhappy to wait?
