Any way of getting out of my contract?

As for 3G, have you tried your sim in a different phone? If it's purely a coverage issue maybe you could argue that you're not getting the service you paid for, and request an early cancellation?
You have little chance of that.
No network guarantees coverage in all places and the T&C say so. Lack of 3G does not consitute a reason have the contract cancelled.
No Network guarantees coverage inside as it's possible the building the OP is in has a lot of concrete and steel, or there is something made of concrete and steel in the signal path. All of which can block a mobile and are out of the control of the network, it could be the loss of 3G was caused bu someone building a tower block. The OP may not have noticed if it's a few streets away but it's affecting the signal.
The OP can TRY and ask the executive office to be released but at the end of the day it would be a goodwill gesture not a right.0 -
You would have thought so.No, but it goes a long way to deciding whether to renew or not - or it should!
As I've said in another thread three is cheap but no limited in my area, so I could save £10 a month moving to three but not beable to use the phone at home. No brainer really..0 -
It's defiantly a 3G handset.
And there is 3G in this area as my dh and friends use it and it flys.
My dad has an iphone4 with orange and has the exact same problem.
I will call orange tomorrow and ask them to send me a new sim as this is getting silly now.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.0 -

Sounds like you have no 3g coverage on orange, Orange coverage is different to O2 or Three's so what other people have on other networks is irrlevent.
Unless Orange have a broken transmitter and cannot/will not fix it you are stuck, you knew what the signal was like when you took the contract out. Did you have a 3G signal at all and it's gone or has it never been there. If it's gone you may have a chance but if there was never one then as you haven't comlained before it would be hard for you to present a case now, you've been happy with it for all these months (or not happy but not complained over the last 7 months plus if you see my point)0 -
My bills are always over £35. Apparently I go over my minutes. (can't imagine that only use it for work occasionally to call mum dh and make doc/dentist appointments).
You know those numbers are 08 numbers and 08 numbers do not fall within mobile phone free minutes right? and would explain why you're bills have charges outside your allowance right? :think:0 -

You do realise 3G is network dependant and just because one network has 3G doesn't mean all networks have 3G right? (like gjchester also points out)0 -

No they are land line/local numbers 01
I think the charges are for Internet when it takes 5 mins or so to load a page with the E or a o.
They will have records of me calling and not one person mentioned no coverage just told me to turn 3G off as I must be in an area where it does not work. (utter bollox).
Call them again tomorrow.0 -

The E or o means Edge or GRPS network, which basically means no 3G. That's what youd expect if 3G is turned off, you should not be charged for it. They monitor the amount of data transferred not how.
I'm not sure why you say that is "(utter bollox)" that you are in an area 3G does not work. Just because one network has 3G coverage it does not mean all networks will, each one provides its own cover, it's entirely possible Three and O2 have 3G coverage when Orange don't in your location.0 -

Thank you. I think that explains it then.
No point calling them again it's to painful trying this and that with a foreigner on the other side. So frustrating. When it's clear orange do not cover 3G.
I think if I can't get out if the contract my next option is to let me friend finish it off? She's currently on pay as u go and spends more than I do each month. She would take it over if it's possible but will need a new number? (transfer names?) (I wish to keep mine as had it for 14 years). Is this at all possible?0
