Lived in a village, caught bus at 7am, got into work for 9am, caught bus back at 6pm, got home at 8pm. 5 days a week. Only place to find work and not allowed to drive. 5 years I did that and you complain about 56 mins!
Wait until you go 2 hrs on a rural bus service before complaining!0 -
56 minutes is nothing, I used to spend a fair bit of time in London yet worked in Birmingham - each morning I would get up at 4.30am for the drive to work and was always at my desk for 7.30am which was my start time.
I don't think I have ever had a job where there was a really short commute - everyone has involved some form of travelling and time spent doing it.
I think that as you have turned down the interview you won't be given another chance so take this as a lesson and don't be so hasty in future. Remember to get the job, you first need to attend the interview.0 -
In London an hour is nothing, and on public transport you can easily read/listen to music/watch a movie to pass the time.
When living in London, I did a 1hr 30 min commute everyday and worked 8am-8pm, if you want a job you'll do it. I currently drive an hour to work each way but when job hunting was considering jobs up to 2 hrs away, as I wanted a job.
I doubt you'll get a second chance now but you need to sort out your priorities for future interviews.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

What would you do if you lived in a rural area miles from anywhere?
Would that mean you would never work?
If you were not prepared to commute - then you would be stuck at home with your parents with no prospect of earning.
I bet they would be delighted!
See starchild's post above and learn from it!0 -
i do not understand some people! under an hour to get to work - I would call that lucky! In these times I owuld say any job interview you get you are lucky to and as someone else said, even if you just went for interview experience!
I used to do an hour half commute each way which involved a bus, train and tube then a 10 minute walk whilst I was 8 half much pregnant... if you need to and want to do it you will... if you are happy with no money and living with your parents for the rest of your life - you wont!0 -
My commute is 2hour 15mins each way door to door costing £400 a month. Eep! I must be mad but the idea is that I take the hit for a year (financially and sleepy-tired-ly) then use the skills learned here to find a better job after.

It was only an interview, not a job offer.
I am thinking if I should change my mind, email the guy and go to the interview at another date.
Are you serious? You didn't go to an interview for a job you wanted, with higher pay, because it's a 56 minute commute?!!You say you want to earn a good say you want to be a good earner...do you think all jobs will be on your doorstep?!!!
Time to enter the real world. If you want a job and pay you can expect to actually have to travel to work a bit each day!Doesn't have to be hours but jesus!!!!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

You clearly don't grasp the fact, that when you apply for jobs, the employers don't tell you where the job location is. The job could be 5 minutes away, but the employer told me it was in an area that was 56 minutes. I clearly should of written that since some people are too stupid to understand.
No, you should HAVE written that (in your opinion), not should of.
Did you even have the courtesy to tell the employer you would not be attending the interview? No? So it's not OK for you to spend 56 mins travelling, but it's OK to leave 2 or 3 people twiddling their thumbs for over an hour, wondering where you are?
I hope your parents are reading this thread, since they are the ones who seem to be supporting you. Mum and Dad - DON'T DO IT!
