Absolute crap. This is like the adverts before the movies which claim that paying £3 for a pirated movie lets warlords buy guns.
According to Interpol (who aren't, as far as I'm aware, funded by any major media organisations) the total market for pirate DVD's is expected to be worth more than £1bn by the end of 2007. Profits are similar to those for drug trafficking, for each euro invested you make 10 back.
They state as follows: "Interpol is sounding the alarm that intellectual property crime is becoming the preferred method of funding for a number of terrorist groups. There are enough examples now of the funding of terrorist groups in this way for us to worry about the threat to public safety.”0 -
There's that spurious apostrophe again!pirate DVD'sYou don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Get lost. We're not writing newspaper articles here. Is it the end of the world that an apostrophe is there? No. So feel happy that you know and keep it to yourselfbiglugs wrote:There's that spurious apostrophe again!
Also it is more appropriate to write "there is" than it is to write "there's". In university essays "there's" would not be looked upon favourable because it is in fact an abbreviation of 2 words

I think you meant to say "favourably"?You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

I could be wrong but I don't think it's a "greengrocer's apostrophe" when it's the plural of an acronym.
EDIT: My mistake. I've looked it up and in the UK it shouldn't have an apostrophe, but the rule has only relatively recently changed. In the USA, however, the convention is still to use an apostrophe for plurals of acronyms.
Assuming we're all in the UK, it should read "pirate DVDs".0 -

But think for a minute. A 2gb memory card is a sophisticated piece of equipment. Do you genuinely think fakers are able to make a fully functioning 2gb card from scratch?!
One idea I have read (i am not fully conversant with the technology so do not know) is that 1gb cards can be reformatted (like f disk) to have a false size like 2gb. All it takes is a quick re-print of the card. Now I think it's something like the card can take 2gb but it no longer has any error correction or something. I could be wrong. So the card works as expected, but is nowhere near as safe.
But either way buying fake cards knowingly is rather stupid and risky. A fake card is a fake card and you do not know how it was made.
I highly doubt that fakes bring prices down. It is generally market demand and mfr cost that determines prices to customers.
If you knowingly buy a fake card and lose valuable photographs I'll just laugh at their stupidity. This is what it's about at the end of the day. If someone unknowingly buys a fake card I feel very sorry for them.
I take hundreds of photos onto dodgy cards and only had one go wrong! A quick spin on a little application found the photos anyway!
Its very hard to lose info on a memory card. And I really wonder if speed is as much of an issue as the manufacturers point out.

Yes, but Americans think the war in Iraq was a good idea, so what do they know about anythingIn the USA, however, the convention is still to use an apostrophe for plurals of acronyms.
As for dodgy memory sticks I still prefer to stick (pun intended) with buying the genuine item from reputable suppliers where I at least might have some ability to sort out problems if it goes wrong.
BTW - does anyone know if companies like 7dayshop sell the genuine article as their prices always seem very good? You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
its interesting that most cards fake or geniune might be used to play pirated music/games.. lolummm...0

Funny you should ask. I bought a 1gb SD card from them the other day for use in my new Navman PiN 570, it arrived in a small plastic case (similar to the fakes off amazon), no retail packaging or anything
Not sure if part of the reason they get them cheaper is that they buy them without the packaging?0
