Problem with father!!!!

Did you say your dad was in his 60's? Perhaps you could try a bit of gentle persuasion that at his age does he really want all the potential hassle this relationship will inevitably bring with it? I'm a firm believer in not going out looking for love, love will find you. The love your dad is craving now could just be around the corner without the difficulties this Russian relationship may have. I wish him luck, however, as I think somehow he is going to need it xx0

4 week visa? Now I can't believe that as UK visas normally have a validity of 6 months not 4 weeks........ If your father wished her to get an extension, I'd suspect the words REFUSAL of LEAVE to REMAIN would be the first ones in the letter she'd receive as, on the facts you have given, she has employed deception to gain entry to the UK in the first place. I'd want to see her passport and get your father to put any savings in accounts with long lock-in periods for withdrawal.0

The law changed so that people with very short limited leave to remain can no longer marry in a Registry Office without satisfying certain requirements.
Yes, but they can be married in their local Church of England church after banns with only 21 days' residence in the parish (to include three Sundays). They do not even have to be baptised or believers, and the Vicar could be on shaky ground if he/she refused because of the Human Rights Act.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

Might be worth just asking dad how he would feel if it were you getting mixed up with a bloke from Russia you'd met on the internet? My guess is he wouldn't be too happy about it. Surely your dad would like someone to love him for himself, not just to provide a better lifestyle for someone he's never met?0

There's only one thing to do in a situation like this.
Get Jeremy Kyle on the case.
DNA test! LIE DETECTER! BOOT CAMP!
Love is blind. Deaf, dumb and soon to be skint.
Not suprised your brother is unimpressed, but he'll need you both when the fallout occurs. Far better for you both to be onside so you can keep an eye on the situation. And his wallet.0 -
Forgot to add i have found out shes been married and divorced in russia. She does run a buisness out there and has 5 staff under her. Dad has laid the cards on the table and told her he has no money and she has told him she wants to work if she comes here:-00

Maybe he doesn't have money as such but what about his house? She could still get her hands on that if he owns it. I would be trying all I could to talk him out of it but it is easy for me to say sitting here.
I really hope things work out for you all, it is a very difficult situation.

My fil went through this.
He met a russian girl (20 years or so younger than him) Over the internet, their relationship progressed very quickly and he hid most details from his family. Before we knew it he announced that they were getting married we were obviously thinking the same as everyone on here, alarm bells ringing....
However 10 years on they are still together and happy, so who are we to judge. She has learnt to speak English very well and is a lovely friendly woman who all the family have grown to love.
So although all the circumstances are a little odd, it could work out ok and your dad may have found happiness. Afterall how many people meet their partners on holiday, shopping, dating agencies!!!
As for the money on the train thing, obviously thats a lie, but lets look at other reasons why, for example: she may have been really eager to meet your father but been really skint but too embarressed to say so, who knows!
Only time will tell were this leads........
hope this helps to give you peace of mind.0
