She has a steroid injection for her asthma every 4 weeks and she just had one yesterday, and the vet said that prolonged use of steroids can weaken the immune system. Just don't know where to go from here.
My girl is only 2.3kg, very tiny build she looks like an older kitten. My last boy had corticosteroids for a severe paw condition when a stray and did suffer with long term effects.
Get her through this then discuss your next move with the vets, she should start responding to the antibiotics and fluids fairly quickly.
Do you have pet insurance? You might ask for a referral to a specialist; in humans asthma can be wholly or partially treated with healthy diet and lifestyle modification. A biologically appropriate diet can also be used to build her immune system and weight up again, tho obviously don't change anything overnight! Does anyone in the household smoke, are you taking measures to keep your home free of dust mites?

Thanks to you all for your lovely words. They are a great comfort. I think that if the vet hasn't rung me, then the longer she goes on, the better her chances are, IYKWIM? Only 16 minutes before I ring them! I took my fleecey jacket down earlier to the vets for her to sleep on. She always has it when she goes in, she seems to settle better if she's on something that smells of home. The vet said it wouldn't make much difference though! God, keeping everything crossed. I don't want her to go without me being there for her. She'll think I've abandoned her.Sometimes you're the dog, but more often you're the tree!:D0

Hi, yes I keep everything as clean as I can, and we don't smoke. We don't have pet insurance because no one wants to take a chance on her. She has too many problems and medication. It's easier to put a bit away each month for eventualities like this. The running total is around £400. If they make her well it will be well worth it.My girl is only 2.3kg, very tiny build she looks like an older kitten. Hi, sorry meant to reply, she hides so much because she's just a nervy little thing. She can jump at her own shadow. Think it comes from when she was born. Husband said he rescued her and her brother when they were 6 months old, but they were both so tiny, they looked like they were 6 weeks. The owner of the house where they were born had about 50 cats, and kept them all outside. They threw 1 can of catfood out a day, and I guess it was just survival of the fittest.Sometimes you're the dog, but more often you're the tree!:D0

Tell me to get lost if you wish, I am not casting aspersions on your cleanliness just get the feeling you want to be 'doing' something.
Maybe steam clean any soft furnishings in the two areas the cat spends most of her time - carpets, mattresses - and take the pillows and duvets to the laundromat?
Which reminds me I *really* need to clean the dust bunnies under my bed. :rotfl: Fingers crossed for your little girl.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Well, couldn't hold out any longer, and phoned the vet. She said that Scully is on a heat pad, with hot water bottles, and her temperature has come up slightly, but that nothing else has changed. They'll keep her on the drip, and monitor her throughout the night. I've told her \I'll keep my mobile on, and she'll ring me if anything changes.
If she's not got any worse, that's good isn't it? Just means she's taking her time to get well?Sometimes you're the dog, but more often you're the tree!:D0 -
Yes, good news. It's likely to take a while for her to respond to the medication etc.
Try and get some sleep tonight and then visit her tomorrow.
Do let us know.
Sending (((hugs))) to you and Scully xxx0 -
That is definitely not bad news, sounds like she may have stabilised which is a step in the right direction.
Try to wind down and get a little sleep if you can. Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Thanks to you all. It's so nice to have virtual friends through all this. Yes, I will try and get some sleep. Maybe things will look brighter in the morning.Sometimes you're the dog, but more often you're the tree!:D0
