I work for Orange and often come across similar scenarios. If Vodafone have a similar process to us then I don't think you'll get anywhere. The contract of sale for both the airtime and the handset are between the network and the original purchaser and for that reason, we will only ever deal with the original purchaser.
The only way on our systems to replace a handset is to diagnose it as faulty and that can only be done on the account of the person who originally bought the phone and because of data protection only that person (or their auth'd third parties) can process anything on said account.
Also the IMEI's are normally paired to the account in question so we always know
Exactly what equipment an account holder has purchased from us and that is what we replace.
As I said, this is how our systems work - vodafone may be different. However, if their systems are like ours, the only way I can see that you could get it sorted would be to see if you can get in touch with the person you bought it off and see if they could do it for you.0 -
Why bother with vodafone, just ring HTC book the phone in for repair and wait for it to be returned.
When Iv sent phones to HTC, 3 or 4 times now Ive never been asked if im the original owner, nor have I been asked where I bought the phone from. HTC have simply sent an email with a returns label and arranged a courier to pick said phone up.0 -

I've got the guy's details, I know the phone number that's on his account. Do you think I could just go in, claim the repair on that number and just collect the phone? Or do Orange require more information?0 -

What information did you need to give them over the phone? Just contact details and the IMEI?
This sounds really promising. Thanks!0 -

Of course, yeah, will do. That's partly why I thought this would be a good thread. There must be thousands of people in this kind of situation. HTCs are selling regularly on eBay of significant amounts of money.0 -

If it was orange you wouldn't be able to do it unless you had authorised third party access to his account.if you took it into one of our stores, I believe they'd need proof that you were the account holder before they would even be able to start the process. I'm not 100% on shop procedures though so I may be wrong and of course, voda may be completely different.
I can't see any harm in trying though. Give voda a ring and see what they suggest.

Just send it in to them, HTC offer a 24 month warranty with proof of purchase.
But they also offer, if you can't provide pop, a warranty of 27 months from date if manufacture, just say you bought it sim free and lost the receipt they have no means or need to check really.0 -
Enter the IMEI into this form and it will tell you the warranty status of your HTC handset...
